Debra,
The words and artwork match well. It is sad what Althiemer's does. This was obviously about this disease without reading the notes.
Congratulations on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Another 6.
I don't know what prompted this, but it hits home with me as both parents had dementia, not quite Alzheimer's, but getting there, and I am forgetting words. A scary business! So I write everyday and do Sudoku and try to keep the old brain functioning. I find more and more people my daughter's age saying they're forgetting words and it makes me wonder, truly, if there isn't something in the food we eat that is bring on forgetfulness early in life.

Hello Katharine :) Thank you for another glowing review and star rating - You are so generous!
I think you probably have a point about the food we eat having an impact on our memory. Probably on our bodies too - there's too many additives and preservatives in practically everything - even the 'fresh' fruit and vegetables seem to keep for longer - how is that??
Keep writing and doing the sudoku!
Best wishes as always, Debra x

Alzheimer's is a disease and once there are signs of it then it just gets worse, the person we once knew disappears. Your words are rather haunting here Debra, love Dolly x

Debra,

I don't know. I understand how hard this MUSt be for the caregivers, surely. But to finally end up in a quiet and calm space with her (hopefully) good memories. Is that all bad?

Please forgive me if I sound calluous of stupid. I have only dealt this once and that was from a far.

If this is going on with you, I hope God provides peace for all. Hugs-

Your lune contest entry is in good form, Debra.
Your syllable count is correct per line.
The image shows what your words describe.
Thanks for the informative notes.
It's amazing individuals with this illness can
remember the past, but not the present.
I believe your entry would present better centered.
However, your work, your choice.
I think you are trying to show the regression the
woman is displaying.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

I can say from personal experience and a care taker for four years, this is the worst thing there is. My mother-in-law had it and it was so so difficult. On the commercials, they make it look more pleasant than it is. Still, my husband and I decided to care for her and hired additional help as needed. Hospice came in the last year, God bless them. Debra, I didn't think I was going to make it, but I did. It was heartbreaking and wretching to watch her. She refused food and drink at the end because she was unable to swallow anymore.

Thank you for sharing in lune form. I could write a epic novel on the subject.
Blessings to you always, and my best for the contest,
Sal xoxo's

Thank you so much, Sal, for your empathetic response to my Lune. I'm sorry to hear of your first-hand experience... it is such a cruel illness. My Granddad had it, as did my Great Grandma.... we fear that Shaun's mum (my mother-in-law) is also showing signs - at present, she is in denial and refusing to go to the doctors.

Hi Debra,
An excellent Lune poem about Alzheimer's Disease. I know all about the thief, I'm afraid. When I was a teenager, my grandfather came down with it. Frank Travis Bartlett was a woodsman. He loved to hunt and fish, and together with three of his sons (my uncles... Bob, Maurice and Ralph) built a log cabin near Cappal Lake here in southern New Brunswick. He started to go back to his childhood, bit by bit. My poor grandmother, Jennie, didn't understand it, and it upset her terribly when he'd suddenly put his coat on at 9pm or so and tell her he couldn't stay with her... he had to go home to his wife! He was remembering a young woman, and when they lived on the west side of Saint John instead of Grand Bay. She'd call up her sons, and away they'd go to find him. He'd hitch a ride into town, and they'd eventually catch up to him around Simms Corner. Alzheimer's robs a person of their memories until they don't even remember how to go to the bathroom. It followed in the family... my Aunt Viola, Uncle Ralph, my own mother (Jean), and in 2020 my younger brother, Peter. He was just 60 years old. So far, I've escaped it. I try to keep active, stay sharp. I jog every year. And I read, and write poetry when the mood strikes me. And I have my astronomy hobby. But it worries me... I'm 71 years old now. Alzheimer's does creep up on you.
Nicely penned for the contest... Good Luck! You've got the correct syllable count, and you nailed a retreating mind.
Hugs,
Kimbob

You have really conveyed a powerful message with these mere seventeen syllables! What's even sadder than retreating to childhood is when they can't remember much about childhood either!

covered the most important escape for this disease, but unfortunately, the symptoms are common for senility, dimentia and a hard hit to the head. It's your basic, "the way a body is conflicted with a disease that will destroy your life, cause you are getting old" it's such a brutal reality in life.

funny thing is, I just was thinking about getting iin touch with you, when I hit messages there you were at the top spot on the page. I was wondering if you knew Dorothy? can;t remember her last name but she lives in England and writes beautiful sonnets of love and nature and of course other styles as well. I am just a bit concerned for her health being the last time we chatted she was going back into the hospital to have liquid drained out of her lungs. that was a month ago and I'm getting worried.

An excellent lune poem. It's difficult to express something meaningful in such a restricted form. But you have done this successfully in writing about a distressing subject.

The poem shows the effects of Alzheimer's disease in a succinct and expressive manner..

I like the way your choice of title supports your write.

Good luck in the contest.

Stay safe and blessed

Julia
