Hopefully, this is not how it really was but only a response to te challenge of sixty words. Do you believe there are still dads like this? Maybe, but they are so far fewer due to circumstances like never marrying to begin with and then the big D @ 50%

I had a very strict German father who not only was a chauvenist but he thought his way was the only way. Since his passing, I've tried to come to terms with the man and why he was the way he was. Studying my ancestry, I learned a lot and have mellowed a little. Thank you for reading my post. Smiles, Carol

What a sad, but beautiful 60 word dash. You did an excellent piece of work that I enjoyed reading. I didn't find any errors. I hope you have a wonderfully blessed day. Shirley

It was sad and it happens too many times in the life time of some children. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much,

This sixty-word flash fiction story, In God's Eyes, has the required word count and gives us a good reason to swim FIRST. The good news is Devon's happy save.

Thank you for understanding the "welcomed grace" for Devon compared to his father's irresponsible drive. Appreciate the review.

    Have a great day!

God was definitely watching out for this athlete. Competition is good for some and not for others. Was he racing or just practicing? The dad sounds a little too pushy, so God stepped in....

I had one of those demanding father's. Luckily, I was a girl and he didn't think "girls" or "Women" could accomplish much. Thanks for the review.

This is bad way to become a winner. It seems some parents can be a bit too demanding. I'm sure God smiles welcoming his children home but he might not smile on the suffering father who learns when his kid said "Please Dad, I can't" he meant it. Nicely written flash.

I had a dad like that and I never ever uttered the word 'can't'. Sometimes, I wish things could have been different, but they are what they are. There is no going back!

Hello mystery writer a merry Monday to you, I hope this finds you well. I liked your 60 word dash entry, you executed it well, sad story though. Good job and good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for the review and your kind words. It is sad that sixty words could relate the pain of a lifetime of a father-son relationship and how it tormented one's soul. At least, he could rejoice in the love of the Lord.

    Have a great day!

It is a sad story, and poignant, but it makes an excellent point, in that what is counted as a winner in God's eyes may be quite different from what humans see as winners. Creative, original entry. Sending best wishes.

How awful that Devon's father was such a demanding task master... driving him to die of exhaustion. Our Father in Heaven will look after him better now. Being a winner doesn't necessarily mean an earthly race.

That's the worst possible thing to backfire when a parent is too pushy for achievement. I wasn't expecting that kind of ending but I guess it can happen. Best wishes in the contest!

This is an excellent short story for the contest,
but more than a little sad. Abuse is the best description
of the father' behavior.
A winner in God's eyes.
Good luck in the contest.
Robert
