An original but legitimate take on the prompt. I've never tasted angel food cake. And I've never heard of it being a staple at African American funerals. But then I'm a migrant from the Caribbean region so what do I know!

It is delicious, LisaMay, but it still adds the pounds all around. :) Yet, I didn't know it was made in the US of A. Though this is a great entry I hope you'll forgive me. I'll write it this way. I like that you took a different approach to the use of God, heaven and angel instead of the expected and common writing.
As to angel food cake, it was a favorite cake for my grandmother to bake so each Sunday I knew there would be angel in our house.

I haven't baked for years - I think my sponges would turn out like cardboard. I've never had angel cake but it does sound delicious.

This is an excellent tongue-in-cheek contribution to the entries for the 21 word spiritual fiction writing prompt. Perhaps not as tasteful as your angel food cake, but humorous nevertheless.

I tried to be different because I thought the very limited number of words could keep things rather too predictable with those 3 compulsory words.

I love that you took the words God, Heaven, and Angel and used them in other than the traditional way. Your originality always amazes me. Between the photo and the enthusiastic words, you made me hungry for angel food cake, something I haven't had in more years than I can remember, but always enjoyed. If I wake up in the middle of the night craving angel food cake, it will be all your fault!

I tried to be different on purpose - I figured in such a short write there was the potential to be very predictable.
Sorry for instilling a craving. It's not a cake I've ever tasted... maybe it's time I tried it.

I'll be honest - I don't like the poems that cram religion down my throat. You managed to use religious ideas (thanking God, feeling like you were in heaven) without making me think you were trying to convert me.
Definitely try angel food cake if you can. It's very different from the standard yellow or chocolate cake, very light and very tasty.

I find cloying religious poems a turn-off. (But sometimes I write them because I can, and it seems to be what some people like to read. Oh dear. That sounds insincere and i've just told you I would never be insincere! I am sincere in my complexity.)

Reminds me of a conversation i had with Andrew's older brother, who never does any study and is barely making it through high school. I was suggesting he could focus better, but he told me he was brilliant - at mediocrity.

Angel Food cake is probably my very favorite. But without all those toppings - just the plain cake. YUM! I could almost eat one whole cake in a setting!
