Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

You did a great job with your contest entry, Yvonne. Your words are well thought out with good smooth flow. I like the cross rhyme sweets/treats and out/doubt. The internal rhyme of why/I and good use of alliteration work well, too. The image is a great pairing, too. I like the word 'folderol.' Who knew it. However, it sums up resolution perfectly.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

Hello damommy, Yvonne, you're a girl after my own heart. Resolutions begone! Besides, with this Covid thing that keeps coming round and round, what else is there to do, but enjoy a nice meal and some treats when the family visits. Your poem reads and flows well, and I especially liked:

What should I do? Go on a diet, no sweets,
or treats for me. Potato chips are out,
no doubt, no pies or cakes of any kind.

(Y, when I say that I like these lines, I do, but what I really like are the sweets and treats, potato chips, pie and cakes of any kind...I'll be right over. Put the coffee/tea on.)

Well-chosen photo. Silky rhyming. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

What a fine rhyming word folderol is! You've nailed it! I'm with you on this particular subject. All my resolves dissolve before the end of the first week. I like the whimsical humour of this little poem.

Thank you. I'm wondering if anyone keeps their resolutions all year. I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't make one. I gave up years ago.

I agree! Good for you ! What's the point as it only sets us up for disappointment because no one has control over the future and to insist on resolutions means we claim we can still do things regardless of unforeseen future events. Great thoughts in rhyme. Hope you do well in the contest!

Thank you. I'm finding out that no one keeps resolutions if they even make them. Except Jim. See his review.

I'm with you all the way on this! I wrote a prose piece on the theme of forgoing resolutions. Heads up--not sure if this matters for the contest, but you classified this as prose fiction. Clever verse in fine form.

I know. I simply went to the contest and submitted. We'll see what happens. Thanks. I'm beginning to think no one makes resolutions or keeps them if they do.

Nicely written and flows well. You connected each stanza and told a story but my favorite is the last stanza, "So many tasks to set and then not keep.
I'll save myself the trouble, skip them all.
No guilt at all I feel, I must confess,
so, I'll pass up this new year folderol." Well done and enjoyable to read.
