"...so, I'll pass up this new year folderol"

I need me a cross-stitched framed copy of this line! Every single year I fall victim to the mass hysteria that compels us to freely vocalize the absolute lies we know we're uttering!

2023 had me finally "resolving" not to "resolve" anything at all.

One day at a time.

(I haven't yet reached the "no sweets" day ~ but hope springs eternal!)

I've given up on making resolutions. I forget to keep them. hahaha

All resolutions should self destruct in 24 hours....

    I like that idea.

This is a cute poem. I have bothered making any resolution over that to get over this crud that has me not feeling up to par. My family sabotages any hope of cutting back on sweets but giving me enough for Christmas to last the year and then telling me hold off on them to I get past this cold. I've already read an update where you'll only eat Lay's potatoes one day a week. I guess if you eat enough on that one day, you may last out the week.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. You're right about the chips. If I stuff myself one day, that will hold me over until the next week. At least, I'm hoping so.

Your poem is so well done. I think we all agree that making resolutions is not worth it, as usually they don't last very long. Setting goals, and endeavouring to achieve them is much better.

I know what you mean. I don't even bother to make New Year's resolutions, as I know I won't keep them. Anything relating to dieting is too big a challenge for me. All those foods you mention are too tempting to pass up. Excellent work with the rhyme and flow. Happy New Year, even if we skip the resolutions. judi

Ugh on the bean shoots and Brussels Sprouts! No cakes, no pies, no sweets - no fun! Love your final resolve:

"...I'll save myself the trouble, skip them all
No guilt at all I feel, I must confess
So I'll pass up this new year folderol!"

I can pass the bean shoots, but I like brussels sprouts. Thanks for a great review.

I'm with you, but I must admit I still feel the need to do better. I do a little at a time, but don't kick myself if I fail. It is a vicious circle, but some things have stuck. Your poem reflects my feelings, has a universal appeal, and is a great read. Good luck in the contest.

I used to make the same resolutions EVERY year, and I never kept them.
I got tired of lying to myself! Your poem is delightfully descriptive and realistic. You taught me a new word! Thanks

-Nice artwork and good poem.
-Effective imagery and rhyme.
-I like the opening because how
many of us actually keep to resolution?!
-I don't even make them any more.
-That could have been my monostich
for this contest, ha, ha!
-The second verse has many good
examples of what you would have to give up.
-A very good concluding verse, too.
-Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Pam. It's not that I didn't keep my resolutions. I simply forgot them. So I stopped making them.

A very good poem for this contest and good luck. I would also add a hardy Amen! Sister. At least that is what they did in the Baptist Church I grew up in when someone agreed with the preacher and in this case the Damommy! well done.

This was absolutely great, damommy. Good luck wishes for the Resolutions for 2022-writing prompt. Your words are so very true, why should one commit themselves to something they can't keep. I loved the picture of the blank page. Very well done and greatly enjoyed.
