Too many rules in this contest, but you did well complying with them. It is a light flash fiction, with a possible ghost as the supernatural element required.

This one will leave a murder mystery in the mind of the readers. Good job on that.

    Thanks Lance...

i started writing the story with a group of stories in mind and somewhere along the line, it got a life of it's own and turned to the supernatural. Appreciate your review.

Great story! I like the peaceful setting of the opening paragraph. Excellent surprise ending that leaves the reader full of questions. This is a good supernatural contest entry. I hope it does well. Blessings. Carol

I always love your writing. You can make your scenes come to life. Of course stories like this make a lot of questions in the mind of the readers. You could turn this one into more, so we could find out why she kill led and why she crying, and will his spirit return. This is eerie and great for the contest

this had started out as a group of stories about The Visits but now I am not certain where I will go with it. I am sure my imagination will take me somewhere when it's good and ready. LOL

Thanks, Beth.... Always appreciate hearing from you.

This is certainly a creepy story, Carol, that should do well in the contest as supernatural. The ending was a surprise. Now I want to know why. Lol. Good luck.

Do mark this for horror. I wasn't sure. I can't do horror very well. Real life has given me more than enough. Well written though and spell binding to the end. A winner here.

Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sally XOs...

Thank you Sally...When I started writing this I had no idea where it was going... I didn't even know there was a contest either. The story flowed and then I read Jan's story under the contest and thought wow maybe mine would fit. I readjusted the last few lines and voila!

    Thanks for the kind review.

Wow! Very creepy. It really leaves the reader guessing about whether her murdered friend (presumably, lover) is a ghost, apparition or mere figment of a guilty conscience. But then, there's the scarf. Why did she kill him? Was it self defense? There are so many questions. This is a very well written supernatural flash fiction story.

Thank you so much, Mary Kay. I needed a boost like that! The story just popped into my head while I was driving this morning... Maybe I might even write a series of The Visits.

Thank you again.... I am so far behind in reviews, but I saw yours pop up and I wanted to say hello.

You're very welcome, Carol. I'm so happy that I could brighten your day.
I don't know how you do it. I just posted a few things recently, and I'm worn out from answering reviews, and I'm not even done yet!
Sending hugs to you, too, Sweetie!
Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

Oh I have about 70 more to go and 7 more to read... It calms me to write so I tend to move away from my "expected fanstory chores" now and then and return in intervals. I never seem to catch up.

Got me on this one! I was totally expecting a different ending, until the last line.
Good scene setting, and where did you get that perfect picture?
Liked your description of Carrie, I could picture her, and really neat, Bennie leaning in and smelling her perfume.
Good worl!

Thank you so much Irish for reading and enjoying my post. As I was driving home this morning, a thought for a series of posts called The Visits swirled around my head. Don't ask me where it came from!! Then after writing this one I saw the contest and posted it. Maybe there will be more--

    Always, Carol

I enjoyed reading this writing prompt, but it left me wanting more. I want to know if she really murdered him or did he do something after she left him to cause him to die? Who's the other man?

    Good morning, Barbara

This morning when I started writing this post (before I saw the contest) I had in mind to continue THE VISITS in short stories. I even started a second one.

Thanks for reading the story and enjoying it.

    Hugs, Carol

Virtual six! You are such an amazing, talented writer, Carol, this was just brilliant! All your writing is. I really loved this one, and I don't know about her getting goosebumps, I certainly did! That ending was amazing. But before that, your first paragraph, what fabulous imagery you have there. I really enjoyed this supernatural story, it was just excellent. Good luck (not that you need it) in the contest!! Love and hugs, Sandra xxx

    Good day, Sandra...
I was coming home from taking the girls to school and for some odd reason this story was swirling in my head and even the idea of a series of stories called The Visit. The first paragraph reminded me of when I would sit on the river bank and think about so much. I hope the end catches everyone off guard.

Love you...I have to get back to writing the ending of Secrets...but yesterday was a long day with face timing with drs and K. Didn't go well. so I didn't write.

Hugs and best wishes for a wonderful day! Carol

This is a great general fiction! I love the flow of this work and the description you put in. This line is my favorite: It was eerily quiet except for an occasional ripple of the water lapping against the rocky shore. Keep up the great work!

When I was a young girl, a river ran past my home and I would sit on the rocky shore and dream... and of course, write. It was my safe place and it felt so peaceful. I am glad you enjoyed the story and my chosen words.
