Good luck wishes in the War Story contest, damommy. What a wonderful tribute to your father and how sadly he was killed when he was walking and that it was a drunk driver. I loved your story. All men and women had an important part in WWII, regardless of their placement. I am guessing that was you that was born. Anyway this was well done and enjoyed.

I'm an only child. I always said they didn't want to mess with perfection, but perhaps the truth is they were afraid to take a second chance. hahahaha. I always signed birthday cards, etc., "your favorite child."

LOL, that is so cute how you signed your cards. Wow, being an only child is either a blessing or a curse. I had a sister that was 16 years older, in that case it was a curse, lol.

I know what you mean. My granddaughters are eight years apart, and are just now growing closer at 10 and 18.

Yes, She is still flying but many of us are feeling uneasy with what is going on. I agree with you. The country is in a mess and we need a do-over. I have been saying that for a long time. God Bless America. Land of the brave. Home of the free. Nancy:)

I have, too. It's not the same country I grew up in. I have my doubts whether it can sustain this onslaught these days. Thank you, Nancy. I appreciate your time and comments always.

No wonder Tom Brokaw called them the "greatest generation." Even those who stayed home made sacrifices, as you mention. Rationing and shortages called for creative measures to compensate. A shooting instructor! I like that notion. The soldiers certainly needed to know how to shoot. I agree that we haven't had such united spirit since then. Maybe briefly on 9/11. Now it's "Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who's the most victimized of all?" Those patriotic souls would be sad to see what's happened to the country. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Thank you so much for the awesome review! I knew if any understood, you would. I can't believe this is the same country I grew up in, and my grand- and great-grand-children will never know what I had in my day. I worry that this country will stand the onslaught we're suffering with everything going on.

I think the young people have been so coddled. It will be difficult for them if they have to make adjustments for hardships. Also, so many have been taught to hate their country. How can they stand up for something they've been taught to hate? It is a sad situation. judi

Great entry for this prompt, Yvonne. I enjoyed the biographical slant you used in this one. The ending where you used a retrospective view of what those soldiers would think today added a thought provoking point that we would all do well to consider. Well done and good luck.

Thank you. Can you imagine what those soldiers, sailors, marine, airmen would say today! Wouldn't bear hearing.
