Who could ever forget the Beatles? I remember 45's being a dollar. I think the first album I ever bought was Yellow Submarine, and the first 45 was Get Back.

We have a large photograph of The Beatles hanging in our living room. Yep!
We are old hippies! I love this, you must know! Roads are horrendous today her with snow, so I got an extra day off! Should be dusting. Will get to later . . . maybe.

The Beatles were the reason I took up the guitar back in 1965. I was 14 years old. My friends and I used to pantomime the new band from Liverpool. We fashioned guitars from cardboard, and used lamp posts as microphone stands. We had a couple of early albums, and played them full blast on the record player with a long extension cord. And the kids from the neighborhood came by to listen. It was awesome! My first experience behind a "mic".
In 2009, my co-worker's wife and son went to see Paul and Wings in concert in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here's a link to the full concert. It's awesome! I will always regret not going there myself.

In my humble opinion, "Yesterday" was their saddest song. My favorite song was "Please, Please Me".
The Beatles "dramatically shaped my life", too. Some of it was good, and some not so good. The songs told the tale. I lost a girlfriend when I was in Grade 9, and it took years to get over her. Certain Beatle songs always remind me of those dismal days. The only good thing about it, it caused me to spend more time playing the guitar. I gradually got better, and advanced to Gordon Lightfoot and Crosby, Stills & Nash songs.
A Magical Mystery Tour, that's for sure. I was so fortunate to be a teenager in the mid-60's. You, too, I see.
Thanks for sharing. This brought back many memories. Even heartache makes a body.

Thank you for sharing your own personal story and Beatles journey. I didn't really care for John Lennon to be honest but he blended in with the sound and was very talented in his song writing. The story behind Paul is leaving with his doing. And the inspiration behind the song silly love songs. He thought Paul wrote to many of them. He didn't do pollinate harm though as he went on to continue in his greatness. He's now 79 and remarried and seems to be doing OK. I still love the early Beatles the best, and savor my 45s. Great post, Sally! I still remember being a child, wide-eyed, sitting up late at night with my family, watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, throngs of teenagers screaming their hearts out. I would buy 45's also, at the local music store -- what a thrill! From the local airwaves on your favorite pop music radio station, right into your living room, to be listened to as many times a day as you wanted to (or as the others around you could stand it).
Because my friends and I were stuck on the Monkees being all the rage, I didn't get my first Beatles record until my Uncle Charlie (16 years older than me) gave me my very own copy of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." I was completely blown away, and eventually I think I had every word memorized.
My favorite Beatle, at first, was George Harrison, and later, John Lennon, and I was very crushed when he was so cruelly cut down in the prime of life (it still hurts me to think of it, especially when he was beginning to get his priorities in order). I was deeply disappointed in the Beatles' breakup, and even followed David Peales' "Bring Back the Beatles" movement (he wrote a song about it, and I had the tee shirt; my ex-boyfriend and I knew the guy).
Your poem is really beautiful, a lovely tribute to Paul, such a superbly talented voice among the Fab Four. My favorite line:
"Yesterday is gone, they say,
our past a second ago."
Yes, it goes by, that fast!
And I loved that Sgt. Pepper album, as it opened up to the giant 12x12 photos of each Beatle, in Technicolor. I used to stare into George Harrison's eyes, lol.
In your poem, I also liked:

I think both he and Ringo had the common sense to put aside the partying, at an early stage, and focus on music as a profession, rather than a lifestyle. I loved Ringo's song, "I said 'no, no, no, no, I don't smoke it no more; I'm tired of waking up on the floor...' No thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze, and then it makes it hard to find the door."
You can't fault George for following a spiritual path, except that he was chasing the wrong mentor, who turned out to be a phony and a hypocrite. John and Yoko were strong advocates for social change, albeit in very unorthodox ways, but ultimately they sought a stable family life, and then disaster struck.
Paul McCartney really was devoted to his wife Linda and their children, and it was so sad that she died of cancer, rather young... then when he married that model (?) who was an amputee, she took him for a ride, and wanted his money, but he eventually broke free of that. He's a tremendous talent and a decent chap :-)
