I'm not sure if you suffered a personal loss here or not, or if you're just lamenting the loss of freedom. Good luck in the contest. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Whew! This is a very dramatic reaction to a political split as the nation decides where it's going. Four years of escaping political deadlock before Trump; four years of social distancing from the free world and embracing the lowest denominator of American as who we want to be; and now going forward with a wounded animal leaving office as the pre-Trump do-nothings return.

Thank you, Mr. Schott. I feel like I need to apologize for such drama.

    But I'm not going to!

Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

I love this stanza: "
Ignore the truth, and watch America drown
in darkest strokes of madness. Look at how
America's dream is stolen! Wake! and find
too late that what you have allowed to come
to pass has taken precious human lives!
I ask for no forgiveness when I say
that those who have with pride convinced themselves
a charlatan did all he could, are fools,
unknowing tools, used and cast aside
to rust upon the blood-stained earth we love." Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

What a powerful sad, angry poem (but fully justified anger). It is the cry of a heart filled with pain, for the loss of loved ones, for the loss of truth and integrity. So well-written. Congratulations.

Oh my! Thank you for the rating, Wendy! It's something I could never have imagined writing just a year ago.

I'm quite blown away by this poem! There's so much meat and emotion. Beautiful phrasing. It feels like an old soul wrote this, one that's wise, forlorn, but still has hope for the future. And the language harkens to the past. I'm glad you wrote this. It feels like it was begging to be set free. I could reprint this whole poem in quotes and say "I love how this was expressed." It is a marvel. Bravo!

Oh my. Thank you, Polly Dolly, for the six-star rating! I'm glad the emotion came through; that was the most important goal I had in writing this. And you're right--when I saw the prompt, it begged to be released.

This is an outstanding free verse poem, the language is incredibly strong, it resonates in the bitterness of the soul, and minister to the misery that lies around the bend, in seething dumpsters of the rubbish of Reg soul. And you did a good thing, you included yourself, like the prophets of old. Well done, good luck, you have penned a wonderful. Well done, good luck, blessings Roy

My gosh, I don't know what to write after reading that. The way you write has a way of pulling the reader into your story. I could feel the rage and anger and anguish and it was as if it was pulling it out f me. I guess I was able to deeply relate to what you wrote. It was a good read. Thank you for sharing.

Oh my, thank you, Annie. I'm seeing stars! I'm glad you liked this, but I hope the rage and anger and anguish hasn't touched you and your family's lives. Annie, I really appreciate you taking time to read and comment on my poem. Thank you so much.

This blank verse in meter speaks the feeling of the adventurer intense, but self-confident, committed and positive; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

Thank you, Alcreator. Many of us had to be positive, committed adventurers this year, right? Of course, some might say that they're positive I should just be committed! I'm glad you liked this poem.

Your 'song to the minority' had me cheering in unison through my tears of sympathy. I don't live in America, but I can see clearly how the 'stupid, mindless noise' instigated by the 'dancing clown who steals the light from everything that's real' has damaged your country, led to the pandemic getting out of control, and made it so difficult for the new choir master. We pray that 'his gentle cadence still unknown' will be listened to with cooperation for healing. Your personal loss is a strong theme through the poem, through anger and despair to resignation.
Apart from the powerful content, your poem is a masterful blank verse in iambic pentameter. It deserves to win this prompt.

Oh my, Lisa. Six stars? I don't know what to say. Thank you.

This was written all at once. I saw the prompt with only hours left before the deadline. I didn't realize the deadline would be extended if there weren't a given number of entries. It's not all I need to say, but I don't want to go back and "over think" an emotional rant. I'm glad the emotion came through the filter of more formal language; that was the goal.

I feel like all Yanks need to apologize for the circus we brought to the world. The GOP's (the Grand Old Party, another name for the Republican
party) mascot is the elephant, so as the circus leaves town, watch where you step until we get a chance to clean up the mess they made!
reply by LisaMay on 22-Dec-2020
I think all the yanks who voted republican need to apologize, not you sensible ones who never wanted that idiot in the first place. He has certainly left a lot of cleaning up to do for Biden - he'll need a big shovel!

Thank you, greyson ernst! To tell you the truth, this was a last-minute entry to the contest?I didn't have time to choose an image! Besides, I find that most times, images are a distraction to the written word. I'd rather let a poem paint its own image in my mind. That being said, there are other times when an image really helps. Thank you for the rating, and have a safe and joyful holiday as well.
