This is good news hearing that Carol has her nursing degree and is now pretty much on her own. I hope Don survives and finds the perfect girl for him.

Thank you Rebecca. Yes, we were relieved when Carol got her nursing degree. The others took longer to come around. The didn't always act smart when it came to love.

Whew! That is really hard when you were paying tuition for three children all at once. Too bad that Don wasn't doing well. But hooray for Carol's graduation!
Oh, another difficult dog experience!
I'm sure you and your husband survived well.

Thank you so much for the review and the comments. We were very disappointed in Don's problem. It as temporary except for the car. That problem lasted a long time. We were happy to have one out of school.

Another excellent chapter. I still enjoy reading about yours and your family's lives. I hope other reviewers are enjoying it as much as I am. no spags today.

So, Evan was ready to be done with the 'kids' phase of the marriage at this point... ;) :) But y'all've done such a wonderful job so far, looking forward to what comes next! ;) Thanx for sharing, my lady! ;) Yvette

Than you so much, Yvette. He wanted his kids to have an education but he also had always hoped to be able to retire early. He hung in there as long as he could.

Ah the manifold problems of raising a family, I think when the kids are growing from adolescence into adulthood, and choosing a suitable marriage partner is a tough time, I remember my adolescence too well, my eldest grandchild is getting there now. An excellent post, great writing Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. I really appreciate the review and nice comments. Yes, adolescence is a tough time for young people. I can be rough on the parents too.

Wow, Beth, so thinks are happening here. Don is not doing too well, and he takes a job with a construction where he seems to thrive. And then he takes on a dog. So Carol had her graduation and now there's three more to go. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla, This is the way my life was going in 1983. Some things to be happy about and some thigs to go wrong. That is pretty much the way life is now.

I do understand the difficulty in getting children through college. I still enjoy reading these memoirs. I am wondering what Don will end up doing. I am wondering about construction.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Don does excellent construction work but he ended up becoming a Chiropractor.

Poor Don, so heartbroken. I do hope he can move on soon. I have a dog just like Nick, a two year old lab. I love her to death, but she can be quite a handful. I'm glad Carl was able to graduate. I didn't come across Jekle Island in my research, I'll have to look it up. Your chapter is well-written, interesting. I look forward to reading more.
PS. They have a beautiful show of lights. I found it at http://www.jekyllisland.com/signatureevents/holly-jolly-jekyll/?utm_source=website&utm_medium=home-feature&utm_campaign=holly-jolly

Thanks for the review and comments. Yes, Don is having a hard time in his life at the moment. It was good to have one child finished with her education. If you are interesting in Jekyll Island look up barrier islands off the coast of Georgia.

All of the Islands are fascinating. St. Simmons and Jekle Island have an interesting history behind them. Sea Island looks like something from a fairy tale. Average cost of homes 3 million, most under 10. Only in my dreams.

This is a lovely chapter. I really like the way you built up to Nick's true nature by pointing out the difference between St. Nicholas and Ole Nick. Nicely done.
I really like reading your memories, although I do have one small suggestions. Watch out for repetition.
For example, the following two sentences are back to back and begin the same way:
"Nick was huge, and ... Nick was about two years old and ..."
Also, the word island is repeated in this section: "Jekyll Island, which is a barrier Island off the coast of Georgia, and we spent a couple of days. Jekyll Island is a 240-acre island..."
Otherwise, great stuff. Look forward to reading more.

Believe me I know the routine of cost. You and the hubby seemed to have a done a good job raising your bunch. Don, Miss Wright had not happened yet. My Mary and I called them growing pains.
Well done again. You had a good man who cared and that's a good thing.
Merry Christmas Beth

Thank so much for the review and comment and for waiting until you had six stars. I appreciate it. Mary Kay has found ten things that need fixing. She gave me six stars anyway.

I get lost in the story and never pay attention to mistakes. It runs parallel many times and many ways of my family and life. That is what draws me to the read. I admire you and your husband for being there for your children.
I think sometimes people read it the way they want it to read for them and when that fails they look for things to pick it apart.
