Love this. Yes, it is the memory that counts, not the fish caught. the time together, the peace, the perfect union between father and child and with nature. Lovely theme, well constructed, simply and powerfully written. Well done.

You are absolutely right - the best thing that came out of that fishing trip was the bonding between you and your Dad. I have a few memories like that - Dad waking me up when it was sill dark and saying "hey lets go fishing. Like you I don't remember bringing any fish home, but I do remember being with Dad.

I enjoyed this poem for the image and "sound" it gave me of the rushing water over stone. Good on the rhyming.
It reminded me too of traveling with my aunt and places that we watched waterfalls and rushing water going downstream.
This is a good read.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Mary. The pandemic keeps me from my grandchildren and from the neighbor kids next door, so we've started writing poems for each other. They all like getting mail, and I send along a gold-covered chocolate coin with each one. Maybe memories a few decades from now! Thanks again.

Thank you for reviewing, Yvette! Yes, this was a fun one to write, and I shared it with grand kids and neighbor kids who can't spend time with me now because of the pandemic. Thanks again, so appreciate it!
