Dear Sharon,
This poem hits me deeply as my soon to be 91-year-old mom is going through that which you write of. And so am I...This was thoughtful and found a tender place in my heart. Just beautiful--Ted

thank you so much Ted - my 95 year old mother-in-law is talking about dying ... and my 82 year old mother LOOKS like she should be - frail as a bird ... so yes, these thoughts are definitely coming my way at the moment. I'm so happy to touch your heart with these.
    Blessings,
    Sharyn

I remember someone telling me that it is a milestone in our lives when a parent dies because nothing reminds us of our mortality more. So true. When we step into their shoes at the top of the family tree, we can't help but be reminded of them in their latter years. A bit scary! Well doe with this very thought provoking sonnet, and good luck in the contest.

It's all true, Alexis. I lost my dad when he was only 59. I just turned 60. Need I say more?

This is a well done sonnet, with correct rhyme scheme and iambic pentameter (not exactly easy to accomplish). The personification and metaphor of Time turning the page is striking. Good luck to you in the contest. Jeanie Mercer

I like your write on time's page turning.

I especially liked:But we now see our parents growing old
These once immortal gods appear so frail,
Their grasp on life and love they cannot hold
Against our Mistress Time they'll not prevail.

From birth to death, it seems but naught an age
As Time - she laughs, and simply turns the page.

I remember when my mother aged ....

Well done.

This piece brings up a lot of memories it would seem, my dear - for myself included. I guess that's where it sprang from! :)S

Ah, you have reminded an old codger like me of the three stages of my life. What wonderful imagery throughout! I especially love the way you describe parents as "growing old these once immortal gods appear so frail." Artistically, this is sonnet writing at it's best. Bravo! RodG

This is an excellent sonnet--skillfully-written, powerfully worded, and conveying a dramatic, timeless and universal theme. Favorite line--the last one!

Time seems to go so quickly it is amazing. It's like your poem says, we see our parents as immortals and then you turn around and they are frail. My father and grandfather have both had heart attacks this year and these pillars of solid rock are now having their bodies fall apart from the inside. What does time do? She laughs like you said. It is time to turn another page. Though I found the poem a little depressing, I think it is very well-written.

I found it a bit depressing, too, Matthew - we fool ourselves into thinking we have a choice. But on another level, we also acknowledge that simply isn't true. THAT's the depression point, I'm afraid - THEN WHAT? That's what we're now asking ourselves, yes? Thank you so much for your magic sixer on this one - I really do appreciat it from a fine writer such as yourself.

You're the other side of brilliant! I can kick myself that I am fresh out of six stars. This is a profound poem written with an angels hand, touching on the fact that time has many feet and waits for no one.
Unfortunately as time passes by she takes with her our youth and wonder.
Well done
you rock, me girl
Cool bananas and warm regards

Very profound, almost fatalistic, but absolutely true, of course. Time and tide, as they say.

And true too, we pay the passing of the years little attention until we get older and realise those we love are fading, surrendering.

Excellent work, Sharyn.
