Sharyn,
This poem is splendid! There are so many gorgeous images that I don't know where to start.
" gold-buttered afternoons"
" a thousand supple subtle colors of green burgeoning between my toes"
" smile and dial my face up to the sky"
And many more
This celebration of simply being aware and joyous and magnificently alives takes my breath away.
If Walt was here today, I imagine that he might just celebrate you too!!
Until next time,
Jill

Well, Jill, now I have even MORE to celebrate, with your lovely SIX! Thank you SOOOOO much! I loved those phrases, too - glad they found an appreciative ear!
Best wishes and again - double/triple "mahalos" for that nice 6!

We all celebrate but how many of us celebrate ourselves? It sounds like a narcissistic thing to do, but really an ode to yourself is and ode to your life and all the good things in you and really everyone should appreciate themselves and you've done that here... Cool :)

How quickly we bounce back! I am thrilled that with your efforts, things worked out and you are now celebrating.
"Ode to Me" That's as it should be. Everyone can see, you gained the victory and now you are really free.
I am glad that you are back on top and in fine spirits; at least enough to write an ode to yourself.
I don't remember a lot of things that happen these days but while reading your beautiful ode to your self, I recalled a saying that I picked up while in college. It went like this: "He that tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted." Many thanks for "tooting." your friend, Bob

Thank you so much, Bob! Actually most of the really bad stuff happened in 2009. We're through the worst of it now, thank goodness. (Though I do have a piece in the dialogue-only prompt if you want to take a peek - pokes a bit of fun at the bureaucratic process!) And thanks for indulging me in my "tooting" - I just couldn't bear to write a boring "Ode"!!! And I guess I have a streak of mischief in me when it comes to competitions like this!
Best wishes
Sharyn

Okay, Sharyn, my first questions is, "What were you smoking when you wrote this one, lol?" Oh, I'm just funin ya. It is great to feel happy and carefree like a child who is filled with joy of self and the world around her.
Um...if you really want to celebrate, why not replace that Walmart watch with a Rolex, haha. Hope I spelled that right. I've never been close enough to one to know for sure. This was a fun piece!
Hugs,
Lou

Thx so much, Lou! Smokin'???? Smokin' peace & quiet with hubbie & son away and a gorgeous silky afternoon with a trade wind - so I took a little breathing time. Amazingly therapeutic, those quiet times, hmm? Rolex? hmm ... unfortunately my $$ have a few other priorities first ... besides which, I'm sure I'd do something dumb like lose it at the beach or leave it behind in a shopping cart ... :)

Sharyn, this is a fun poem. You have such a talent for formatting a piece to look and read so well. Many folks are way to busy with life to ever discover how great living really is. I'm glad you enjoy life, my friend. I love "the tired tick of my old Wal-Mart watch" that's clever and relatable. Excellent work, I wish you the very best of luck in this contest! Brian :)

Your joie de vivre runs through this poem which rings like a song to be. Your profile picture mirrors your love of life. You even find a certain majesty in the tick-tock of your Walmart watch. Great use of alliteration plus a surprise ending--but a drop in pounds is always a celebatory moment. An enjoyable read with all its sensory appeal. Favorite expression:dial my face up to the sky.

Life is as it should be when one sings an Ode to ME... But you have taken YOU ad all that surrounds you to another level... You see, you feel, you taste, you hear, you touch with all the senses of the heightened you... and the musical, lyrical, magical you has been let loose... basking in both God and His/Her creations... in a voice lilting and lovely, you sing, 'look at me fitting in while being one-off, individual, unique... sing the body, ME!
I can feel you and all of that around you... because you have sung the body, You... and I've felt every sing word/note...

bless you for vibing with my resonance Greg! I'm delighted that you tuned into this one with me - I was hoping you would! Big grins - and "mahalo" for your lovely six! :)
ps: what were you doing out in the wild????
-
I've certainly missed you much!... I've connected with you early in this adventure...
Out at a remote research station setting up equipment, ducking carnivores, lamenting lack of internet on my little ancient netbook from a distant time and crying because there were no hotels, room service, cable or civilization as we know it... how the hell did the pioneers do it... AND WHY!
Home is where the traffic is!

Imagine how happy you would be if it was a WHOLE POUND? LOL
But go ahead, celebrate in word and action. Eating a pound of chocolate comes to mind as an appropriate reward. :)
There's a little girl in you and I think she escaped for a bit to run around and delight us all. You are special. No wonder you celebrate! The wannabee theologian in me would add that the Biblical picture of God has both paternal and maternal attributes. Great poem!
