This is lovely and heart-wrenching. It touches a chord in all of us, I'm sure, who've been where they think they will never, or want to never, feel again. Lovely view of both sides of the coin. Belated congrats on th win for the duct tape contest. I new it was a winner! You go, girl.

Marcia, yes there are times when we don't want to 'feel', but it is much worse to be numb than to laugh or cry. Thank you so much for your most generous review and compliments. And, for your congrats on my crazy 'duct tape' piece! HA! Best to you, Sue

Sixteezkid,
Glad I had six stars to give you, because this is simply outstanding. Such passion expressed with clarity and without fanfare. I thought the third stanza was my favorite. But I re-read the last, and I think it wins!! Great job. elaine

This is a wonderful poem. The thoughts expressed here are very true and profound. Indeed love is sweet and bitter, but i agree with you that it is better to be broken by love than by the grief of loneliness. kudos

Perp, your 'exceptional' review means so much. Writing would also be a very lonely thing without it being felt by others. It would be meaningless. Your words here make it all worthwhile. Thank you from my heart. With warmest regards, Sue

Very sad but very clever as well. You'd rather be tested, loved and left forlorn than to never be loved at all and have a heart of steel. Excellent piece Sue

Lynda, we are very complex creatures, aren't we??!! The need to feel on either side of the spectrum is what makes us human and without it, there is nothing. Thank you for your very kind review, Sue

I know the feeling. You captured it brilliantly. "Aching for love's misery." I don't want to go through that again. You painted a picture of that nothingness feeling. Your words are lovely and your language is poignant. You sure know how to write them. Sincerely
Delora

This is a good piece of
verse, Sue, albeit rather
sad - has a smooth flow to
the words, and good rhyme.

Well penned, my friend.

Margaret.

This one made my eyes start to sting. How sad is a love hwere one wants to feel their heart breaking, just so that they know they can still feel something. I heard the ache. I really 'felt' this poem. Rose.

Rose, there is nothing more moving than to be told your words resonated, but for you to say they made your eyes sting goes far beyond that. The sharing of feelings and words is very powerful. Thank you for 'hearing' these words. With warmest regards, Sue

Sometimes the soul does feel numb. At those times even bad feelings are worse than none. That dead feeling can steal your soul away. This poem is heartbreaking and full of symbolic imagery. Excellently poetic writing. Blessings to you, Linda

Yes, Linda. We're meant to feel, whichever way it is. Numbness is not where we want to be. Thank you so much for your great review. You know how much I respect your comments and compliments. With warmest regards, Sue

Wow, there is a great deal of yearning in this poem from the voice of narrator, who wants a lover to "crack this tempered shell" and "soften this calloused soul"--we learn so much from those carefully crafted phrases. Your title and picture choice are in perfect sync with the theme about the need to really feel.
