This is just a marvelous attribute to your father. The tempo of words and rhyme sprang forth like the sounds of a banjo as I read. Just abrilliant combination of artistic scheme and words that seemed born together. Very heartfelt. My memory was of my uncle and his guitar pickin and singing Hank Williams tunes. Will

I just loved the way you wrote about your father in such a simple way, always filling your house with fun. They are wonderful memories to cherish, and I'm sure he is still entertaining the angels with their harps. Excellent work and worthy of a sixer Kay

Kassey, to receive this great review and your most lovely comments mean so much to me! I know those 6's are precious commodities around here and to receive one only makes me feel so good that I could share it and that you liked it so much! If my Dad could only know the ripple affect of his most beloved banjo playing.

This is a beautiful poem that tells a beautiful story and at the same time serves as a tribute to a great soul who really lived in the sense that he did what he really liked. Great rhymes that were consistent all through the poem. I enjoyed reading it. kudos.

Good Morning and well done! This is wonderful tribute to your dad, whom you obviously loved dearly. It's beautifully rhymed and metered and was a treat to read.
"And now that Dad has gone" perhaps, "since then, my dad has gone" might work better to avoid having "now" two lines in a row, and starting a line with "and". Just a thought. excellent

Yes, I wrestled that "and" to the mat and it's still there...HA!!! Some work there, yes. Thanks for highlighting the "now" being used twice...uh, oh....major faux pas. Why didn't I see that? Will go to the editing room and have a look. Thank you so much for your most generous review and thoughtful comments. So much appreciated and with warmest regards, Sue

    Judian,

What do you think of this for the last stanza?

Since then, our Dad has gone
    To Heaven, now held dear
    He took that Gibson banjo
To play for all to hear

If you don't mind, your comments are greatly welcomed!

"Daddy's Banjo" is a heart warming and beautifully written poem. Music has a way of turning back the clocks and bringing us into the moments. Perfectly smooth poem to read with perfect rhythm and rhyming. Well done.

A lovely way to remember someone with these words
of "Daddy's Banjo." This would be a big part Of"Daddy's" life.

"That five-string Gibson banjo
Dad's only favorite toy
Made more than sounds of music
It filled our home with joy

He taught himself to play
That good ole bluegrass sound
He loved to pick and grin
Musicians came around

Always makin' music
Was what he loved the most
Earl Scruggs and Don Reno
His heroes, he would boast

Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Jed Clampett's ballad, too
He mastered these at first
Then, nothin' he couldn't do

When he'd start to tune it
That banjo'd come to life
Two fingers and a thumb
Away went all his strife

And now that Dad has gone
To Heaven, now held dear
He took that Gibson banjo
Now playing, for all to hear

We miss you, Daddy"

I loved every word written here.

Honeytree.

What a lovely tribute to your father.

I enjoyed the phrases "only favorite toy" and "pick and grin." I also liked your use of vernacular and the famous pickers' names to give your story more realism.

Thanks for sharing.

That must of been a little emotional for you friend to write friend, I don't mind a little bluegrass myself if that is what they play in the movie 'Oh lord where art thou'with George Clooney, that was a darn good movie, music included. A great poem, it must of been great being around a gifted musician growing up, I'd be thinking that you would play Something? Good luck!

I......iiiiiii I am a man- of constant sorrow. I've seen trouble through all my days. Ha! You're talkin' to the right gal here about "Oh, Brother". Not because of the soundtrack (of course fell in love with that), but because I am a MAJOR Coen Brothers fanatic! Ha! Yeah, Hitcher...Dad's been on my mind for a few days (out of the blue) and I wrote that poem. And last night was kind of weird. All night I felt just like I did when he died. Strange how it just hits ya. Thank you for your most kind words. And for your great review. Warmest regards, Sue
