Andre,

It's so clever of you to combine the old with the new. *smile* I think the dead and wounded would like this memorial. It is very kind of you to remember them in this way. I can hear this being read dramatically. Thanks!

Thank you, Robyn, for your review and condolences. The fire resulted in no wounded. Either you got out alive or you died inside. The fire moved too rapidly. The real wounded are the family and friends who have to live without their loved ones.

No less than a six not only for the excellent way you presented it but also for the content and the use of the mythology that I love so well.
Author's notes were an excellent help.

A well-written poem. I love the reference to Kharon. I am also glad you put in some information on him for the reader. I wrote a story awhile back using him and some other characters from mythology and no one knew what I was talking about.

Yes, Winnona, it is sad that many do not know who Kharon is, but I suppose that he is the mythological character that we would like least to meet. Thank you for your review.

A great poem with very good imagery. I can see the skiff loaded down with goods from far off lands. Included in the ship's hold are the souls of the dead.

Yes, Thomas, I can imagine the boat overloaded, too. I am glad that you grasped my imagery. Thank you for your review.

No wonder there is so much genuine pain and emotion dripping like torrents of tears from nearly every line in your melancholy musing here, Andre.
Such a horrible tragedy...so many lives snuffed out far before their prime.

As for Charon, I know him all too well. I keep a gold coin in my pocket just in case. I believe in being prepared for the inevitable...the inescapable fate that awaits us all.
The cold, cruel clutches of death...

Yes, Dean, we will all take a journey with Charon at some point. Yes, my poem about "a horrible tragedy" evoked "so much genuine pain and emotion dripping like torrents of tears from nearly every line." Thank you for your review.

Hi Andre, what a lucky escape you had, and I'm pleased for that, but at the same time I mourn those who were not so lucky. You've paid a lovely tribute with this poem. You must feel devastated. I'm so sorry. All the best. Ulla:))

A very well written poem. Excellent use of word choice and structure to help progress the poem. I very much enjoyed your use of mythology, I've always been intrigued by it. Fabulous work!

Yes, WriteSins!, given that the artists who lived in the warehouse named it Ghost Ship, and mourners left memorials that referenced lost treasures and shipwrecks, using the Kharon myth was a natural fit. Thank you for your review.

Andre, my sympathies for the loss of friendship you have suffered. This was horrible news and I have followed it from the start, having no idea one of the best writers on FanStory would be touched by the tragedy.

So many gentle people being taken so horribly is devastating.

Paralleling Greek mythology to the ghost ship was brilliant, emotive, and beautifully expresses the sadness of the writer.

Yes, Mary, I work three miles from the Ghost Ship warehouse and know poets and storytellers who lost friends in it. I felt I had a duty to visit the memorial outside of the ruins and write something about it. Thank you for your generous, six star review and for noting that my "Paralleling Greek mythology to the ghost ship was brilliant, emotive, and beautifully expresses the sadness of the writer."

As I read the poem, before reading the notes I sensed there was something personal in it. I had not heard of the fire and being based several thousand miles away it would have meant little enought to me had I heard. That you might have been lost to us though brought up short. It seems you had a lucky escape there. This is a fine piece of free verse that cries out against the senseless loss of so many creative souls.

Thank you, Jim, for your review of my "fine piece of free verse that cries out against the senseless loss of so many creative souls." At another warehouse-venue at a different night, that could have been me. thanks again.
