Is VIncent Price still alive? If so, you've got to get him to record the audio version of these. This is a perfect introductory piece for what I imagine will be a great collection of bedtime stories for psychotic parents to read to their soon-to-be-bedwetting children.

I had to re-read it after reading the author's notes. The idea of unexpressed thoughts going with us to the grave seems to be the hermeneutical key ( a term I learned in seminary and have not used since -thanks for giving me a reason to pull that one off the shelf so that it doesn't haunt me in the afterlife) for this piece.

As always, the meter, presentation, and word choice are eerily perfect. Can't wait to read the other pieces in this collection.

Thank you Mark. I deeply appreciate you most generous rating and well expressed review. I'm very pleased you enjoyed it.

As for Vincent Price, no, I'm afraid he is no longer with us, having passed on six days before Halloween in 1993. That was a sad day for me. I idolized the man and his many talents.

As far as our unrecorded thoughts are concerned--indeed, such is the advanced state of hermeneutical knowledge. For we truly have little or no reason to fear it in the slightest--save for dying with those musings left unexpressed.

    Thanks so much again, Mark

The subject besides fear and horror is 'beware' of what hides in the dark. Has a creepy feel to it. Like the black background and the picture fits perfectly. Great rhyming and flow. You are a master at this kind of writing. Well done! Les

My quill lies still 'til the morrow,
whilst these thoughts of pain and sorrow
slumber deep inside my head,
wrapped warm within a tufted bed.

Another of your great poems, my talented friend...
perfectly presented - and read without fright!!

Good luck with that book.

Margaret

Thanks so much, Rahul. That is so kind of you to say. As always I appreciate your generosity in rating this, but more than that, I am very pleased that you enjoyed reading it. You also grasped the "irony" I intended in the comparisons of a warm, plush bed and a coffin, which I am also very grateful for.
Thanks so much again for your fabulous review.

A profound thought - 'our thoughts go with us to the grave.' We should record them in any way we can, and an anthology of horror is as good a way as any. Horror is often remembered when other forms of literature are forgotten.

Wow; seriously just wow. This reminds me very much of Poe's work who's one of my all time favorite and so underrated authors/poets out there. Your flow is superb; tones and language just draws you in. Everything just fits together perfectly. I'm normally extremely tough on my judging *as I expect to be :D* but I honestly can't find a single fault.

I'm curious about your book as I love to write Dark Poetry also at times; but another time. This is about your piece. Thank you so much for sharing

Thank you very much for reviewing my work, meldarthx.. I try never to post anything --be it poetry or prose--if I feel I don't have something significant to convey, or can at least be entertaining. Without good people like yourself who care enough to read what I've written, what would be the point? So, I always do my very best to give you the best bang for your buck. After all, I feel t's the very least I can do.
Thanks again for reading and commenting. I deeply appreciate your readership as well as your valuable time.

The King of the macabre spreads his dark wings and treats us with another dark tale in perfect rhyme and flow. Visions of the King in his crypt with headstones and coffins abound fill my mind and THEN!!!! The illusion is broken - he uses a PEN???? not a quill dipped in a blood filled inkwell or a blood dripping chickens claw but a PEN!! OK, these items may not have created the rhyme required but a pen? LOL Another brilliant offering my friend.
Bless you
John

Very nice work , Dean!

I'm so glad you chose angst to rhyme with flanks.... some of the alternatives would not have been very nice. Enchantingly presented, as usual.

Sounds like another great venture underway, hope it is a huge success!

Thanks for checking it out, Craig, I appreciate it.
I hope it will serve as an outlet for those who write dark poetry to post without fear of persecution. Also a place for those who don't normally write dark poems to cut loose a little. Did you see Gert's entry? Wow!

I've been wrestling with this for a while now. 'What will my legacy be?' Well, it's tough to have a legacy if you don't put pen to paper and get those thoughts out. I used to think some of my writing was too disturbing. Now, that's what I'm known for. All because I got those thoughts out on the page.
Excellent poem with an excellent moral.

I know precisely what you mean of course, Mike. Dark writing is great therapy and very liberating to the soul who's doing the writing. Is it better to let those feelings remain bottled up and festering inside of us, poisoning our spirit, as some would suggest? Or, is it best to drag our personal demons kicking and screaming out of the shadowy recesses of our minds and into the light to expose them for the vile things they truly are?

I chose the latter option myself.

Thanks so much for the very generous six star rating and your fabulous feedback. As always, I sincerely appreciate it.
