I enjoyed this, Debi. BRRRRRRRR! I'm in upstate NY, and Minnesota seems twice as bad in the winter months. I don't feel so alone now, knowing bad winters can touch down anywhere. Poor Buffalo!! Best, JohnC

Happy New year John! I really appreciate your very kind review and comments for my " waiting' poem. Buffalo did get it bad,
But we had 20 inches of snow. 'We're starting out badly here. Last wk temps minus thirty, close to minus seventy windchill temp and when the wind blew, we had a blizzard. Now tomorrow supposed to be the same. As much as those scenarios can happen, we have had a mild winter here and there.....in my lifetime. Lol!. Thanks again my dear friend!

Oh, my! I hadn't checked the weather as my kids just left and headed back home. We are in major clean up mode. Our dishwasher broke and Jackson is fixing it now. I am sending this back with prayers for you all. Be safe and stay warm. The angels protect you! Sal XOs

I lived in northwest Pennsylvania most of my life and it may not be as brutal as Minnesota but it was cold and we did wait and wait for winter's end. Here in NC, we have had a taste of the north this year and it brought back those memories of the "wait".

Happy New Year Debi and I know Spring will come ---- eventually.

Hi Debi,
I agree whole-heartedly with this poem. I live in Minnesota too.
It seems we have 8 months of Winter, 2 weeks of Spring, 3 months of Summer, 2 weeks of Fall.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Happy New Years.

I live about 8 miles from Buffalo, but our address is Maple Lake. I don't know if you remember my poem called Deadly Shooting at Allina Clinic? But That was at Crossroads Allina in Buffalo. But the morning of the shooting and the bombs, I was supposed to be having my labs done. With my husband gone, I didn't feel safe to drive after getting a bad headache, so I cancelled. One of our dear friends was shot five times and survived. I am sure you heard about it, living so close?

That headache could have saved your life. What a miracle to survive five gun shot wounds.

Hi Debi, I don't know how you live with all of that snow, but like you say,
you were born in MN. You are use to it. Your poem illustrates life in MN while you await spring, and eventually summer. Of special note:

We're into June and it turns hot; it's Minnesota weather
Mother Nature has decided, to skip Spring all together

(Mother Nature has been doing a lot of that all of the country. Also, she's been skipping Fall as well. Ugh.)

Beautiful photo of the field behind your house. It must be lovely in the spring and summer. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck.

You described your desire for Spring well. Debi.
You gave great reasons throughout the year of
how you wait and long for Spring, then it's there
and gone with another 8 month wait. The picture's
awesome. I've never been anywhere that close to so
much snow. Your words flowed smoothly with good
rhymes and perfect imagery. I liked the organization
that included the major holidays/celebrations while
you waited for Spring. The verse about you planting
your flowers was funny but so true. I liked the ending
where you accept the whims of the weather because it's
your home.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Damn. I knew Minnesota was cold, but not that cold and for that long. Wow.

Well you deserve it for squeaking out a victory against the NY Jets some weeks back! (just kidding, I can't hold that against you).

Nicely written poem, best of luck in the contest.

Cheers. John

This is such a lovely poem that takes life's lemons and makes lemonade. With stellar articulation, you wet your appetite for the spring that will eventually come.

You remind us in so many ways you state.
It may seem like spring isn't coming, just wait.

Thanks for sharing. Embrace the Love from Above.

I grew up in Michigan so I know how winter can last forever. We had, and I assume it's still true, lake effect weather. Unstable, unpredictable, and usually extra snow.
The poem flows well. The repetition of the word wait works well to show the ongoing discontent. The language is conversational and humorous. The rhymes are unforced. The narrative stays on point.

Thanks for sharing a good read.

Thank you I was pleasantly surprised to win the NY contest. Considering where I am, in Phoenix, we are having unseasonable weather. It's 1100 AM and the temp is still 56. You are welcome. Have a good new year.

Your poem was lovely. And I can't review much, as a case of shingles in both eyes a few years ago left me with deteriorating vision, and use what little strength in them as I have to write and thank reviewers, but will be having surgery in the next few months and hoping to change that. However I did read your poem and I loved it. I especially liked the ending humor.

Debi,

Beautifully penned. We sometimes see 20 below, but rarely, and not below that as I recall, but I can empathize. It seems we often skip spring and plow into summer. I'm always glad when we've passed the winter solstice and the days begin to lengthen. The older I get, the harder I find it is to endure winter. I am so anxious for open windows!

So far we are having a warm, open winter. We'll take it! Every warm day gets us closer to some semblance of spring!
