Patty, This is a very well written chapter. You used very good descriptive wording and very good imagery. I enjoyed reading and reviewing it. sounds like Jerry wasn't too happy that Doug wasn't too happy about Kathy being in charge of so much!
I found this one thing that might need to be corrected:
I owe it myself to work on this last project she
I owe it (to) myself to work

Blessings, Teri

Do you write the whole story before posting? Or write as you go along? I am intrigued because most people write a whole book and then release the chapters. Or are you influenced by the feedback? You have a great knack with the story writing Patty, I enjoyed it, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly; I am writing as I go along. It seems this story came to me fully formed, bu I want to approach each part 'fresh.'

Thank you for the lovely compliments - I appreciate your words of encouragement,

I enjoyed reading this strange story. It tells a fascinating tale of a woman passing away. In her will, she asks an estranged daughter-in-law to arrange her memorial service. The reactions of family members when her husband phoned on her behalf was awful but awfully true to a real life situation.
This chapter is engaging and I'm looking forward to reading the next.

Ah, so that's the reason for the check amount change. Thanks for another riveting read. One question: when Doug calls Sylvia, he asks if her wife is there. Is that intentional meaning it's a same sex couple? I also wondered why all of Doug's sisters were so against Kathy.

Hi there; Yes, Sylvia is a lesbian, and the nastiness between the sisters comes from a dysfunctional mother. No one ever felt loved and good old Jane dared to talk up Kathy. (More of this will be revealed in the next part.)

Thank you so much for continuing to read, and I hope you will come along for the rest of the ride,

Hello, Patty, interesting plot and characters. I've known toxic people like that and I feel bad for Kathy. I look forward reading the next chapter.

Well done, honey.

Hi Gypsy; thank you so much for continuing to follow this story. I am loving working with these characters - though they wake me up in the middle of the night with plot twists and bits of dialogue!

    I appreciate your kind words,

LOL, I loved the last sentence, needing security at a wake! They don't sound like nice people, do they, and I'm sure they are not going to be nice to Kathy at the funeral either. What will they be like when the will is read? Can't wait to find out, but it looks like I'm going to have to. Have a lovely time with daughter and your grandchildren. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra; thank you so much for reading this latest chapter.
I've decided to take my laptop with me. I usually wake up before my daughter and the kids, and I will use the time to write and get the next part up on the site.

I'm glad you are looking forward to the wake - it should be a 'good' time,

Brilliant, it sounds like it's going to be fun. I bet the mother has a surprise waiting for them all. :) You have a lovely time, though! xx

Good stuff! Sounds like a dysfunctional family. No fun in real life, but great for fiction.

I like how you handled the phone calls. You hit the right balance, showing us one call to a sister and summarizing the others.

One minor nit:
Waiting to give him time to catch up with her words, she monitored for his reaction. Should she go on or let him talk about his feelings about his mother's death.?

Oh...one more thing, can I have a few security people? It might get rough if everyone is drinking..." -- dun-dun-DUNNNNN! Nice little foreshadowing. Now we expect trouble and are looking forward to it.

I enjoyed this. Keep writing!

A dysfunctional family is asked to let by-gones be over and attend their mother's memorial. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words making for a very good read.

Hi Patty,

A good continuation of the piece and a bit more backstory woven in about the family dynamics.

I owe it myself to work on this last project she left for me - owe it to myself?

The tones of the number could be heard as he punched the keys - I don't think this line really serves any purpose.

This was not long. I thought it just right, LOL. I wondered about the money and had the same thoughts about it not being enough. This should be one memorable wake.
