Beautiful poem and well written but it hurt me.
We couldn't have children and chose not to adopt.
Back in 1980, it was hard for Jewish couples to adopt because many adoptions were rescinded.
Even reformed Jews!
That said, I am very happily married to my husband.

Hi friend yeah we accepted we couldn't have kids and due to our increasing health problems it was probably better that way. I am so sorry that girls are getting abortions instead 0of giving some other couples the joy of bringing up a little one.
Thanks for sharing. My wife and I love the Jewish people and Israel as a Nation. (Not Jewish but we are born again Christians.) Hope you will read my (Autobiography)book "The Little Dog That Wouldn't Let Go" still being added to hehe.

Sankey the picture was perfect especially since your wife knitted it. Your poem brought tears to my eyes the longing you both felt was well written and expressive. God Bless you both..hugs enclosed for you both.

Thanks very much you don't know how much we appreciate your comments. We are coming up to 27 years together and we do accept that it was God's will for us to not have children due to our health problems which have increased o9ver the years.

This is poem which will touch lives all over the world, especially those who walk in these shoes. God bless you for writing such a descriptive masterpiece which masters the childless heart cry of many! For the style it is written in it has a very good flow throughout the whole of it.

Thanks very much for the fine review. You caught my meaning for sure. I only put this up again today as I changed the picture you would have seen an explanation in the Author notes. Had a gorgeous little girl from Fan Art in there before but I loved the little cardigan and felt it was more relevant. She made it as a teen for a baby we never had sadly. Thanks again. Been loving meeting a lot of new folks on FS lately.

Thanks Sharyn I did get accepted when I entered it under Free Verse but whatever. Not a professional here sorry. My wife got the little cardigan out today it was a teary occasion she is doing a bit of a clean up. I had a lovely little girl from Fan Art as the picture before. The picture change is the only reason I put it up again today.

Comment from Gloria ....
Sankey, I can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be for couples unable to reproduce. You have with gentleness and grace approached the subject in a wonderful free verse. Very best wishes to you in the contest.

no kidding the picture is great, maybe second best baby girl picture int h world, the best being my granddaughters'. . . just the facts :)
I agree, males can never know the heart of a mother. . .we can relate to the kiddos but there is something different.
This is a very sad poem and very well done

I've only read a few poems now on this site, but this is my favorite so far. I like the rhyming scheme that occasionally falls a little out, I like the whole feel of the poem, I like the subject. Emotion was certainly conveyed, I really liked this poem.
