I loved those movies. That's pretty cool that they were filmed in your area. I think the ice fishing thing is really interesting, but being on the ocean, it never freezes here. LOl. Great poem. Fun and lighthearted. Gretchen

Hi Gretchen, you are so sweet and thanks so much for the awesome review and for the kind comments. I have no clue what made me do this one. Maybe cause he goes to the lake everyday to see if the ice is safe enough yet. Anyway, it was a fun one to do. I appreciate you having a little laugh with me with this one. Thanks so much, my dear friend. Love, Debi

Laughing out loud here. I tried ice fishing ONCE and it would make a great torture technique to get the enemy spies to spill all their secrets! Brrrr!
I love that you playfully pick fun at Glen and Rick. God Bless their dear hearts that they find camaraderie and laughs while freezing their tushes off. I'm guessing this is MUCH more popular in Minnesota than in Massachusetts. At least they haven't frozen off their fingers (or any other 'important' body parts!) Oh my! Naughty me!

Fun poem with your trademark rhyme, meter, and heart!

Hi K, haha, you are too funny. Hey, everyone always thinks that they freeze their butts off. But truthfully, they're in a warm fish house, with a heater in it and room for four people in one my husband's size. I told you about Jason's. That one sleeps eight, full bath, kitchen little living room and even a fireplace. They sit on leather recliners that each has a big screen tv to watch their bait and see when the fish comes in. There is a little round carpeted piece they pull out of the floor to drill a hole in the ice. It is awesome. I will send you a picture of it.

This is a cute poem. Yes, Minnesota has some great fishing, and the ice doesn't stop the fishermen. You used great rhymes in your poem, and I'm sure your hubby is happy to know he is still number one with you. Blessings. Carol

Hey sweet Carol, actually ice makes the fisherman. LOL. He goes to the lake everyday to check the ice. Last year was no good cause of the warm winter so this year he is excited. Yet, I might go to Arizona to visit a lot of friends and relatives. And yes, he says I am number one also!! Smile!

You're welcome. We lived in MN for three years while my husband was in seminary. We had lots of great winter fun with youth group. My first toboggan ride, broomball hockey, etc. But the wind chills are something else!

Debi dear,
I saw the first Grumpy Old Men and it was really funny. Ice fishing is big up north and an ancient sport dating 2000 years ago in what is now the Northern United States and Canada. It's still going strong in the Marquette family too, I see. A fun poem of your winter sport of choice and the comedy within.

Cold. I can only take so much.
Love and Blessings across the frozen terrain.

Hi Sweetie, you would like the second one better because Sophia Loren gets together with Matthau and Lemmon marries Ann Margaret. Very romantic but hilarious. This is not Debi's idea of fun, unless it is in Jason's house where I can sit in leather recliner, watch my bait and fish on a big screen tv and fish in luxury. Actually we consider it abuse for the people who don't teach their kids to hunt and fish, as it helps to keep them off of drugs and out of trouble. That is why there is so many plush resorts up in the northern areas, because of the ice fishing.

Yes, and a winter sport that will go till the end of time. It's not about just the fresh water fish, but also the sport. My son in-law and family throws them back. The people are fish crazy all year long and the northern woods resorts are making a killing for a reason. It is fun to do wholesome with family.

This is an awesome poem. What a fun one to write about and all the Minnesotan men love their ice fishing. The picture is adorable and I like you labeled it grumpy old men. They kinda look like them. I love it.

Well done my friend

Cecilia

That's right and if you didn't know the movie that well it was an easy mistake. I thought it was kinda cute.

Once again, great poem with a witty story. Good on them anyway, following their passion. I suppose you're a little tired of hearing about

What great fun and a delightful read, Debi, of your lovely, humorous verse! I love the analogy with Grumpy Old Men and, if anything is going to spur us on to watch the movies this is it! I know, for all his grumpiness and competitiveness, Glen would be a little softie in the home and, of course, he's your number one guy. Thanks for sharing, Debi. Love Debbie. PS I've got a grumpy one too but mine tends to spread his grumpiness nearer to home!!

Hi Debbie, referring to my hubby as grumpy is to say I am still a tooth pick. Haha. He is over protective though and that drives me crazy. When you see the movie then you will see one of those guys haul the fishouse off the lake while the other was in there. That is like my husband's but my son's is amazing. My husband has a little one that fits four people and a wood stove but my son has one that weighs 20,000 lbs and his pick up to pull it weighs 21,000 lbs. so the ice has to be thick. My son's has a fire place, kitchen, full bath, living room three bedrooms. They have leather recliner chairs and a big screen tv for everyone to see right where their cork with the hook is. And then they watch the fish come in they are going to catch. There is a little round carpet piece you pick up off the floor and cut a hole in the ice and you fish from there. It is super fancy and nice. I will send you a picture of it by email.
Thanks for the awesome review and all the nice comments. You are always so sweet. I appreciate you so much!! Thanks Sweetie. Love ya, Debi

Ice fishing ... I can't imagine sitting in that cold for hours and having a "good" time. You Minnesotans are a different breed.

Thanks for the light entertainment with this poem. I did see the original movie; I think we're all getting grumpy as we age.

xoxo

Hey, Sis, so did you ever see either of the movies? If so then you saw one of them haul the fish house off the lake while the other guy was in there. That is like my husband's but my son's fish house is amazing. Hahaha, you are so funny. Thanks sweetie, and a fish house is what they are in to fish on the ice. My husband has a little one that fits four people and a wood stove but my son has one that weighs 20,000 lbs and his pick up to pull it weighs 21,000 lbs. so the ice has to be thick. It does seem often that when men get together to go do fishing or any kind of activity like that they've got to have the last word and say that they got the best. I enjoyed your poem very much and your presentation is very lovely. May you have a good day and may God bless you with a very merry Christmas.
