I always worry about this partnership with swans because I once heard that one beheaded itself flying into an overhead cable. Sorry to start on that note. But they are a truly majestic bird - so much grace on the surface yet all that activity and drive below, not to mention the role they play with their mate and young. Your verse skilfully and poignantly conveys this sense of beauty, of apparent calm which is often so sadly lacking in ourselves when struggles and stress occur. A lovely almost meditative poem with a strong message of dignity and persistence through adversity. Thanks for sharing, Jessica and good luck! Debbie

A very perceptive metaphor for most people going through life suffering from a setback; real or imagined.
A vicarious ride with a metamorphosis into the swan.
Each phrase encapsulates the hidden emotions.
Are we being told about the many [HALT] Hungry Angry Lonely Tired people who seek to endure life with a smile, while hiding the sub rosa of life's burdens?
We are, by an excellent story.
Well done.

Sounds like you are very lucky to have such a beautiful area right on your (back) doorstep.
It's sad to contemplate, as you do, what might be the cause of her apparently solitary existence.
Excellent use of metaphor to remind us of an important lesson.
Well done :)

Jessica, This is such a beautiful poem about this beautiful swan. You used great descriptive words and peace as I read each word. I would love to live close to where there was a pond with a swan in it too. Thank you for sharing your elegant poem with us! Great picture! love and blessings, Teri

She was a worthy muse, indeed, Jessica! What a beautiful piece of work.
Elegant and smooth flowing like the Swan. It took on her poise and persistence. Beautiful! Best, JohnC

Oh Jessica, this is a lovely poem for the Take a Photo Poetry contest. It's beautifully written and I can understand how the swan became an inspiration for your poem. All the best of luck. Ulla:)))

I enjoyed taking this walk with you. I like how you tied together the plight of the swan and the plight of man. Even before I got to the last stanza, I knew where your poem was headed. You led us into your closure, explaining perseverance so well.
I'm glad I read this.
