You said it right, and you rhymed it perfectly. The tragedy is horrific.
I wonder why a certain group has not picked up n this here. I noticed the same persons picked up on earlier news of snatching, which I was shocked at the racism. I am only glad it was not a circumstance that would have orchestrated their exuberance into more hate. So sad to read what I read, made me wonder where I am and whom surrounded by. I already knew. I chose not to comment. Your caring of all is always on display my brother, and that is what we do, keep caring for all, no matter creed or race. Let them who hate for hate's sake, drown in their poison...and Quoting God won't help them, for I am not sure which God they speak of. I simply stay away from their work, and hope they stay away from mine. My joy is for positive people, my words are for the same. Even if it is only one fan, I am happy, for that person must be worthy of me, as I of them. That is the only audience I need, for such the pleasure to share writing with such. I have nothing to prove, or need.
Your poem is worthy, and good with aura...natural, always giving.
My best.
Have a good weekend my friend.

Thank you my dear brother. I am strengthened by your eloquent denouncement of the prejudiced acceptance of destructive actions practiced and carried out by hateful persons, who operate without resistance.

Here here this is s a very heartfelt and raw emotional piece. It's so I sad how easily our children's live are being destroyed. Even more that almost anyone can get a weapon and take/use it like a toy. So sad and frustrating. Do raw still.

Thank you Malerie, I appreciate your thoughts on this hard to deal with situation.

Hello Nolan,
I live in Michigan.
Such a tragedy of monumental proportions.
Having taught in Michigan's public schools for 38+ years, I can tell you that somebody at Oxford High School "dropped the ball!" From the news' reports, no one even looked inside the kid's backpack? That's the first thing folks in Traverse City Area Public Schools would have done...and a policeman would have been present. Such a tragic situation and loss of life...
As an aside, my husband designed Oxford High School...
Thank you for sharing!

Goodness!
I became so caught up in the situation, I failed to comment on your poem = a very powerful and realistic perspective, Nolan!
Thank you!

Thank you for the additional information. It always helps to learn background information. I grew up in Detroit and attended Detroit public schools. When I grew up, even a stabbing was considered the advent of the end of civilization. How times have changed.

Thank you so much for everything. You are appreciated.

Who would have thought a simple eight-line poem could be so powerful and timely? And yet here it is. Extremely well done! If I were in charge of the world (good thing I am not) the first thing I would do is get rid of all guns. Great work!

Thank you so much. I am sometimes a minimalist. You do not always have to use that many words to say a lot.
Comment from Anne Johnston
Your poem is very well done and contains so much truth. It is heartbreaking when we read these stories of young people shooting their fellow students, hard to believe how they can even think of it.

Sometimes they are conditioned. That is why I stated that they, the parents did not teach the child how to love. The absence of love in the heart makes possible all sorts of awful behavior.

You are so right,

In just two differently monorhymed quatrains, you concisely describe the circumstances leading to separate puddles of blood on the floor of a school in Michigan.
Though the Second Amendment to our Constitution justifiably supports our right to bear arms, it assumes those who do so are not children nor adults without sound mind or respect for others' right to life.
Clearly, the cause of this tragedy was the fifteen-year-old shooter's parents, who bought the gun for him and taught him to fire it but never spent any time teaching him morality. Worse, they knew he was emotionally unstable.
As you say in your notes, the fault here is not in the gun itself but in whose hands the gun was held. You are right that responsibility in gun possession and use are necessary.
It is just to charge the boy for murder as an adult, and both of his parents for involuntary manslaughter for their negligence in this case.
Sadly, none of this will bring back the victims to their families; but your words may wake up more people to the right way to handle the presence of firearms among us.
Superb, and aptly illustrated without being gory.

Thank you, I went through many edits to arrive at the final product. I even dropped an entire stanza because it did nothing to advance the message.

You are most welcome, Nolan. The result is worthy of your efforts. -- Mike

This is truly an important and vital commentary straight from the headlines. Both the parents and the kid had no respect for gun ownership or other human beings.
Very well-written and to-the-point words.
Best wishes,
Mary

A sad but accurate commentary on the ways of the world - life holds no value anymore. I place the blame fully on the irresponsible parents who ran away - instead of owning up to their dirty deeds. This world has got to go...

This is a truly important social commentary dear nomi! Children do not grow into killers with love on their side. They feel outside life.
Thank you for sharing!
