Hello Jay,

Great to have you pop in here again after the long stretch of absence. Of course I do receive and read your newsletter, for which I thank you. I particularly like its design too - mine is so bad it's best not to show it.

The Flash Fiction read more like prose poem to me - which probably says a lot about my expertise in poems and prose.

Best,
Aki

Much obliged, Apky. Yes, there's a lot in common with the prose poem and flash fiction. I had two other readers call it a poem, so there might be something there, too. Good to see you're still here.

What the heck...word counts and such. Delightful interlude and well done and that's all that counts. I could never do a short posting of a story... My short stories start out short and somehow they mutate to page after page. Good work here.

Many thanks, Halfree. I'm glad it gave you a chuckle ... or at least didn't leave you gagging (since I just realized you said nothing about a chuckle. Anyhoo, glad you enjoyed it.

You're a very clever guy, Jay, getting your readers to fall for a ruse like the one you set up for us to fall into here.
And I will admit, you almost got me with it.
Ya know, while it is true that people look a lot like ants from a tall building like the Sear's Tower in Chicago, ants also look like...well... ants...when one is standing on a curb looking down into the gutter from the corner of Washington St. and Hargrove Ave.
Good job wuth your entry.
Best of luck in the contest.

Especially if you are on the curb, knowing your pest control man didn't do his job, and not quite believing your eyes. Yep, they look like ants. Thanks, Dean. I figured you were long gone. But you're back!

I've been in the hospital, Jay, prepping for ipen heart surgery.
There's a lot they have to "fix" before they'll take a chance on opening up my chest.
I'm still ariund just keepin a low profile.
    Good luck, my friend.

A very well-written seventy-five word flash fiction poem. There are very little people that we can trust with anything in our lives but ourselves. Everyone i s just interesting to get paid for a job not wel-done.

Very true, Sandra. But if it's a contest, you do want a fighting chance. Hey, good to see you're still here. Thanks for reading it.

Hi Jay,

Good to see a post from you. Hope you are well.

I concur with the word count at 75 exactly. lol

Nice tension wrung out in the opening sentences, before the smile raising conclusion.

Good stuff.

Well, I think this is very clever. You had me going for a minute, there. You've got some bright 11th-12th graders over there. Should do well in the contest, and i'm sure the wordcount will be fine.

LOL! Funny one. Of course they look like ants, cuz they ARE ants. You tried to trick us, and you succeeded toooo well. So you stepped off the curb. Well, sometimes that takes courage too. :)

Wonderful!! Had me thinking he was going to jump there for a minute! And he did, right off the curb, ha ha. No wonder they looked like ants! Loved this,
Blessings...
PS...I always count manually

Thank you so much for your kindness. Yeah, I tried to play with the reader's mind a bit. The surrender flag, the sirens.

Hi, In my opinion i did not count, but i know what you wrote is so interesting describing the spirit of a bird, making it a complete story not a 75 word demand. I so enjoyed reading your poem and watching the bird as if it is sitting next to me, so much your description is net clear and wonderful. I hope it's a contest, as i am sure you would win. Love Terry
