Clearly you love your grand boy, and a fine lad he appears to be. Hug him as much as he will allow, because the day will before you are ready and he will want to high five you or just acknowledge you with a shrug of he head and or shoulders, whichever way will be the cool way at that time. I speak from the experience of dealing with my sixteen year old too cool for school grandson. Oh he is still in school, but an old man such as I am couldn't possibly know how it is in the world today. This is a heads up, get ready for it.

Your grandson may break the mold, but it is very difficult. We are in a battle with forces that want to steal the hearts and minds of our young. Since this is a grandchild you must have experienced some of this as a parent. Believe me it is much worse today. Good luck.

To royowen,
We all can relate to the little toddler's that just love to pull at your heart strings.
His spirit pure as an angel's sigh, very sentimental metaphor given.
or the soul-like pleas of a baby's cry.
Good use of perfect rhyming on your 2nd stanza.
Charlene

Yes a portrait of sheer joy and love and life in this poem portrayed through the appropriate image of a butterfly - a striking image 'His spirit pure as an angel's sigh' and a great pic

This is a lovely poem Roy and a perfect simile likening your grandson to a butterfly. Good mono-rhyme throughout and beautifully descriptive. Very good aabb rhyme and good use of metaphor in stanza 2. Good luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy x

Gosh, I'm glad my son is raised. I wouldn't know how to do it now - do you get rid of the TV, the computer, the newspapers? Never leave the house? The potential for contamination is everywhere. Gorgeous poem. Love the "flitting vapour" and the meerkat heads! (Love meerkats in general).

Beautiful--both the picture and the verse!
You have captured the wonder, amazement, and gratitude that grandchildren bring!
I am enjoying in my grandchildren what I was too busy to appreciate while raising my children---a wonderful second chance:)
Great job.

Yes Helena, it's an easier time with the grandchildren than with one's own! Thank you for you kind, generous and encouraging reviews, blessings, Roy.

This is a nice grouping of rhyming couplets that definitely follow the butterfly usage and present a plethora of similes to describe Grandma's love for a child's child.

A beautiful piece Roy. Although the poem is beautifully constructed as always by you, that is not why I gave the six stars. They are for the content of the poem and your notes. We forget how tender we were and our children are - we become hard. Thank you for the tears you have released from my heart - the hate in the news is a reflection of... well, you know. Thank you Roy, you are a good man.

Excellent rhyme and flow in this. Best of luck in the contest, and this is a creative take on butterfly, to compare your grandson to a butterfly. The words "flitting vapour" floating by carry this out very well. Great sound with the words zip and zap. You also describe him as having graceful movements. This is a very delightful poem devoted to your grandson. Lovely photo. judi
