Great story. Not only is this well written, but it has an important message that sports are not just about winning and losing. Good luck in the contest.

Your granddaughter sounds like a remarkable young lady, and you have every right to be proud of her. And of yourself.
You tell a very personal story with restraint and forbearance. What's more you champion the heart of the champion above her sports accomplishments. Good luck, I think you're a champion, too.
Peace, Lee

That is what I want to do, Mummy - add comma for direct address
Marijke, what a lovely story about your hard-working, talented and kind granddaughter who wanted so much to win but did not want to lord it over her friends. I love your spirit, too, that she would make you just as proud had she lost every race :-) Good luck in this Sports essay contest. Brooke :-)

A heart warming story of hard work and success without letting it go to one's head. You should be very proud of your grandaughter and of course her parents as well. Remember the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Well done, Buck
I did notice a few typos as I'm sure you were typing in a hurry.

Thank you so much, Buck, for reading and sharing in the life of an amazing young lady. So young, so wise, so focussed! I'll go and check those typos - yes, it did rush this! Warmest regards.

What a lovely and heartwarming story. And what a little grown-up you have in your granddaughter, thinking of her teammates like that, not wanting to rub it in. She is a gentle soul. Both my daughters and son swam competitively; it is hot in those stands but you forget in your excitement.

What a great human interest story that takes the reader right to the action. You can almost hear the crowd and feel the pride over flowing for a loved one. Good luck in this contest.
