You've made my day, Beth. I can start my morning, believing that all I have forgotten about my past is "selective amnesia" and not dementia, so there is a possibility I could recover. I, too, remember the sadness and the pain and tend to block out my childhood because of it. You hit the nail on the head!!! Your humor adds so much to the story.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
CAROL

Thank you Carol, I so happy you liked this. I'm so far behind that I don't have time to write anything new, so I needed to post something so I won't be forgotten.

What I really enjoyed about this (aside from the humor) was your personal in-depth analysis of the root cause of your then-husband's 'selective amnesia', especially emphasized as you wrote: 'As nearly as I can determine, in order for him to consider an event memorable, it must involve pain, embarrassment, fear, or something totally non-existent.'

This was a great read for me. Thanks for sharing ~

Chaming and funny portrait of that strange state of affiars called "marriage".

It would be fun to look at this subject from the "amnesiac husband's" point of view.

Very well done.

FYI...you are missing a few commas, but I am having my own late night bout of forgetfulness...and can't remeber where.

This is so universal. One or the other of a couple has selective amnesia for negative things and the other has it for positive. My ex-husband and I had the same type you and yours do. This is quite a story with humor and a lot of reader identification. You chose great words and they are easily understood. The story flows from paragraph to paragraph. I'm glad you end it with the positive view point. Great work.

Your essay is a very entertaining read, Beth. I'm sure all of your readers will identify with various parts. I didn't stumble on any parts, nor did I see any Spag's (except for the apostrophe-s in the word husband, right above the title.) This story reminds me a bit of Erma Bombeck's writing. Great job!

What a hoot! Your husband sounds like a real pleasure to live with. Oh well it takes all kinds to make the world go round. Men are from Mars....Women are from Venus.
This was a fun read. Actually he might be a bit of a pessimist but I have seen a lot worse.

It's amazing that some people only remember the negative. When it comes to my childhood, that's all I can remember but when it comes to the now, I tend to remember the good things that happened. This is a well-written piece. I especially liked this part: "Even Alfred Hitchcock couldn't have devised such an ingenious murder plot." lol!

I enjoyed this write very much. I think it's funny how men remember these kind of things, yet women remember dates, and good things. I could picture him running as a boy being chased by something in his own pocket. Humerous and entertaining.

Very good - and quite funny. Well written and kept me interested. Being very pedantic - a couple of commas missing throught, otherwise, very well done.
