My first husbad was one of those sexy construction workers who worked outside rain or shine to make a living for us. Sometimes it was very hard to see him know, knowing he would spend the day with very hard work. He said it was soul-satisfying to help build something useful. There was pride among those builders in their creativity. Your poem speaks volumes about such hard workers. These are the kind of folks that make America so great and the kind who are getting the shaft as the economy goes down the tubes. Excellent thoughts and imagery in this one. Blessings to you, Linda

Glad you brought up the word, "sexy". HA! Love a man with that leather tool belt strapped around his waist! LOL!!! Something about a man working with his hands always seems to be gratifying to them. My father was in construction and I've been around it for years. Thanks for sharing your own story. Always appreciate your reviews, Linda. Best to you, Sue

Sue,
What a great dedication and a nice tribute. Your poem was extremely nice. We have really been hit hard where I live. Hundreds are being laid off our factories are being moved over seas. So we understand your words well.
Yours,
Rachon

Yes, and I've been so troubled by it that I just had to write on it. Thanks so much for your very kind review. With regards, Sue

I really enjoyed this wondeful little dedication to the working man who goes out daily to do his best for his family and hi country. I like the style you have used and the presentation is good. Excellent Kay

This poem addresses the very thing that President Obama addressed along with Joe Biden on the news this morning -- the middle class and how to help with jobs and unemployment. You have attacked the issues well and left it just where it is: in our prayers. Your minute poem follows the rhyme scheme perfectly. Good job. mslyla

And this short little poem seems to have a similar theme as your Integrity poem. The hard work ethics of the common blue collar working. I get it. Good job yet again. Sincerely, Dean

Being in all classes, I loath the Brit middle class. In fact I hate the class system. This is the first time I've heard that America has a class system. As a union boss, I am glad to see the other classes know what it feels like to be in parity with other men.
The middle class has shafted America, through greed and laziness. They've had it too good for to long. So much for "All men are equal." Why the class system? Tear it down.
America must get back to the values that built the nation. As America through its greed is making us all suffer.

Your anti-American rhetoric is no longer welcome. You come from a nation that colonized the world which enslaved too many for far too long. This is a nation that was founded by leaving that enslavement. You initially said you didn't know America had a class system. No we do not (not like in Britain). In all of humanity, there are unspoken classes, of course. But your blatant and rude remarks about Middle class Americans being greedy is typical of the world's jealousy of this country. Your last sentence says it all. Everyone blames America for your own bloody woes. Typical Union Boss. Knows it all.

two thirds of the worlds pollution does come from yanky land. yet america stayed out of kyoto refusing to believe in global warming.
the world recession has been caused by the american wall-street greed.
what happens in america, hits these shores six months later. Even your president admitts to america's failure..
Yet England is worse, with the damn class system. But after three years of working in america, i was happy to be home. Far too many americans are in debt just for health care.

Don't forget America had slaves and black/white divide, in my life time.
You had slaves right up until the recent past, just because of a humans skin colour. We have been shocked in the free countries, by the stories coming out from the elder black folk of america. New Orleans has tarnished america forever.
-
A city is destroyed completely by a Cat 5 hurricane and that makes America the worst country in the world. You're brilliant.
And a bitter, whinging Pom.....
I'm not interested in any of your venomous discourse. It's just too pitiful.
-
Why were the levies left in disrepair. Why was the next hurricane in a white area swiftly dealt with.
Become un brainwashed. In 88 Boeing military offered me a career for life, but after going to blacks only areas I saw the real America. Never think that anyone is jealous of America. Here we pity them. Having never won a war by themselves has left America with an inferiority complex. MLK showed us the real America. But time is wasted on a middle class white person, as you only believe American propaganda.
The BBC has been back to N O and the help never did arrive. If Cuba was able to look after its peoples then how is it that almighty America failed. Why do you hate blacks?
-
Again, your venomous rants are not welcome. England is perfect. I give.

HAHAHA, blighter, you've sussed me out. If it was not for you blighters, we would be speaking Russian. Drat I hate having the wind taken out of my sails.
In truth. America is the banner for all that bodes well. Barrack And Bill are loved over here, as was Roosevelt. I been to his estate many times.
As my last ex was from NY. I talk to my african friends and ask, why can America do so well and Africa with more potential wealth, mess up.
You bugger. I'm off to the soccer.
Stay well and well sussed.. I'd be back over in a heartbeat, if I could find another Ex from America... LOL

This poem is many things besides a minute poem. It is a wonderful tribute to the working man/woman; a timely comment on the state of our country and a prayer. I love it. Great job.

"Blue-Collar Man" is another beautifully written poem and tribute to the working middle-class. Perfectly written with perfect rhythm and rhyming throughout. I agree with what you said too, corporate greed and bigger government are causing a lot of heart ache for the average person just trying to get by. Well done.

I loved your poem. I could get on a soapbox because I too do not agree with what the president and government are doing. I believe in free enterprise and if the government would focus on businesses and projects that create more jobs, then we all could be working. I am at risk of losing my job because I am a car sales consultant for Saturn which is a GM company. Sales are terrible right now, the media has everyone terrified to spend any money. With the bailout, GM is at the mercy of the government which who knows what is going to happen. I don't want the government to control every aspect of business at the risk of losing free enterprise. I'll get off of my soapbox now.

The most terrifying "long term" issue here is that the federal government has long passed its mandate for its existence. "Out of control" is an understatement which cannot be conceived. Congress is so corrupt that I fear there is no turning back now. I don't even worry about who's president these days. Our lawmakers are killing this nation. (trying to step down from soapbox now). Thanks so much for your review and all your comments. I wrote this poem for ALL who are at risk of losing their jobs. The blue-collar man is the symbol I used for all hard workers. And I'm sorry to hear about your own situation. Hopefully, this recession can make a miraculous recovery and not be a long protracted one. One bright shining light out there: Low interest rates. If we were in a high interest rate environment now, things would be about 10 times worse. That is what could possibly pull us out of the recession quicker than we think. Let's hope. Sue

I agree whole-heartedly. I don't know if my husband will continue to have a job or not. He works in construction, and since the housing market has had problems, nobody is building. It seems like only the big business get to be saved, like they really need it. They have already choked us almost to death. Ok, so now I'm off my soapbox. Great job.

Our low-interest rate situation could hopefully pull us out of this recession faster than we think. One positive thing to all of this. Thanks for sharing your story. Hoping all goes well for you and your husband. With warm regards, Sue
