I like how you have shown seven different scenerios all hoping for the same thing, The Joy of Christmas and it shows us, that Christmas will come, no matter what, so try to enjoy. Nicely done, Shirley and Merry Christmas.

The refrain, 'The joy of Christmas', brings a solemn feeling into the poem. Here, you beautifully create a contrast between those fate has favoured and those less favoured, sitting on the side walks waiting for a penny. It also enjoys us to share and show love in the spirit of Christmas. That's the joy! Well done, dear.

To think just this afternoon I was cursing fate because someone cut me off at a mall parking space. How easily I lost sight of any thought of goodwill!
Around the world and in my very town people are struggling to find one strand of tinsel's worth of joy...
Your poem is a grave reminder that blessings are never to be taken for granted.
Whatever each of us can do to esse the suffering of another is truly the essence of the season.
Beautifully rhymed and phrased.
Your alliteration is subtle and effective...
I'm better for having read this, Shirley!

This was an excellent read. Talk about degrees of separation. Vivid descriptions and good use of rhyme - the language did not seem forced or weird. I would recommend this piece.

Comment from Gloria ....
I think you did a wonderful job of contrasting the terrible conditions that so many people live compared to others with great abundance. It's like two different worlds.
Christmas time can indeed bring this sorrow to the fore.
Your artwork is a stark representation exemplifying the point.
Very well done, Shirley and I glad you returned to post this reminder.

Your poem is deeply moving. I love how you capture the brightness of holiday cheer. But also show the unfortunate reality of suffering in other parts of the world. The repeating phrase "The Joy of Christmas" adds such power. This left me thinking and feeling so much - a truly impactful piece. Beautifully done!
