Ah Ric, so you are a poet after all. I don't know who Karen is but I'm sure she will love this poem. What excellent presentation and a great entry for the competition.
Good luck and best wishes. Jen. X

Ah, my sweet friend Jen, always ready with kindness and well wishes to fill an old dude with feelings of accomplishment. After five weeks traveling and only able to jump in a couple times to review a few posts, I finally gave up and dumped my inbox to have a clean slate. I'm glad to be back, and it's always a pleasure to see your name pop up in my mail. Wishing you the best today, and always,
    Ric

Hi Ric

This looks like a good entry to the contest. Good luck with that!'

Wow. You're a poet now and a pretty good one. Somebody may kidnap you and just have you write poetry no story no novels.

I think that's what might
scare you the most

And, I'm just getting with all of it

But you had good rhymes with no set meter so there were places where it didn't flow as well, but it was made up for by the content

You really gave a happy birthday to karen that's very very good. I'm sure she'll be very happy with it.

I enjoyed reading your poem

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Pamusart, for taking time out to read my poem. Your generous review and kind words are greatly appreciated! I might never write another poem, but I couldn't not join in on Karen's contest. LOL

Aww! That's so sweet of you to enter into this contest which will be such a blessing to Karen! I looked at the contest and it says it should be in limerick form. But I'm sure the delightful message is better than any adherence to form!

I must have overlooked that it was supposed to be in Limerick form. I just rushed and spent about 15 minutes, wanting to submit something. LOL. Oh, well, leave it to me. Thank you for the generous review and kinds words I appreciate YOU!

It means the world to Karen and she's been pretty stressed with her move. You have a huge, caring heart, Ric! 💖

Thanks for noticing my kind heart, but now the whole Fanstory crew knows I'm without a brain.
reply by lyenochka on 18-Jul-2024
Not at all. I don't think everyone wrote limericks either. Karen could always change her requirements!

Great artwork and nice presentation, Ric. I think Karen will love your tribute for her birthday. You do a good job with images and alternating rhyme. A very good opening about hoping to make her swoon. I like the line about kindness and wit. It is nice for her to be closer to her sisters.

Other good lines are
"Look to the future forget the past
Blessed newfound light to guide amen."

A good job mixing the humorous with lines like these that are more heartfelt. A very good closing verse, as well. Very well done!!! Hope you do well in the contest.

Thank you so much, Pam, for your generous review and kind words. I don't care about the voting, just didn't want to not be a part of Karen's contest. I try to avoid foul language, but since Karen sometimes gives of a blast off color comments, I had to end it with one of my own. Much appreciated!

You are very welcome, Ric, and thanks for sharing in your reply. I'm sure Karen liked your poem.

To salute someone you genuinely care for is about the kindest thing you can do when you have no intention of buying a gift. Words that entertain and make the heart feel good, provides a certain lift. A gift can be something that might age and fall away, but the heart will be overjoyed by the kind things you might say. When you offer a happy birthday.

Thank you so much, Nomi, for your generous review and kind words. It's always an honor when a talented poet like yourself takes time out for my occasional scratchings. And then your review is so filled with such eloquence and grace that you make me proud to have even tried. I always appreciate YOU, my friend. I've been gone for about 5 weeks and couldn't possibly keep up reviewing, but you make me glad to be back.

As soon as I saw the image, it reminded me of Karen, not so much the embarrassing condition as the sense of humour. I'm sure she will be delighted by this fine birthday tribute. Well done, Ric! Debbie

Thank you so much, Debbie, for taking time out to read my feeble attempt at poetry. It was a long and grueling 15 minutes I spent writing it. Your generous review and kind words are greatly appreciated! And like you, that opening picture reminded me of something Karen once wrote.

If you're not a poet, this sure is an excellent try at being one! A great contender for the top prize. Don't believe everything you hear about Kren. She is really a sweet, good natured lady.

Thank you so much, Jim, for your generous review and kind words. Like you, I like Karen a lot. She is always sweet and has a great sense of humor. She's the only reason I tried a poem. LOL I appreciate you, my friend!

Thank you so much and I hope your poem takes the cake!
reply by the author on 19-Jul-2024
Well, Jim, thanks for your well wishes, but someone brought to my attention that the poem was supposed to be a Limerick, which nowhere did it say so, other than there was an example. So, I went back and added my first Limerick to the end of the post. :-)

Your birthday poem was magnificent. You said some nice things, some teasing and some sage advice. Always good to cover all of your bases. Glad to see you back on the writing circuit. Gretchen

Thank you so much, Gretchen, for your generous review and kind words. Karen is always so kind and takes time to read whatever I write, so I couldn't not enter her contest. LOL I've been gone for over a month, and although I did get to read a little while I was gone, I missed a lot. I'm happy to be back and anxious to read your stories with regularity again. Much appreciated!

Way to go Ric. She'll love your thought. I loved the line, "Long as teeth aren't covered in tarter". My thought exactly. I share the same concern as the birthday card. If I have to sneeze, I find a closet or go outside. I wish her a wonderful day and many more. Thanks for sharing it. Stay well.

Thank you so much, William Lester for your generous review and kind words. I'm with you, I stifle a sneeze until I can get off to myself whenever possible, but on those rare times I can't, it can be embarrassing. LOL. Much appreciated!

Thank you so much, Steve, for taking time out for my foolishness. Karen is always so nice and reads everything I post, so I couldn't possible not join her contest. Even though, a poet I'm not. LOL I'm glad to see you made it through the storms and look forward to your coming chapters. Much appreciated!

My pleasure, Ric. Dang, I took a stab at the contest, but I don't think I know her. Can you tell me who she is, I don't want to offend with my work as it's fiction?

Karen Cherry Threadgill, from Texas, Sweet as she can be, witty, with a touch of naughty. :-)

Nice, thank you. I will look her up and review some of her work.
