This is so very sad, yet beautiful, at the same time. My mother recently had a virus that affected her mind and is causing the very beginnings of Dementia, although she insists to everyone that her "mind is perfectly fine". I am concerned about the things that she is already forgetting and getting confused about, because she is not going to admit to having a problem.
I don't think that Lee will leave her forever, either.

Oh, how sad a tale in this lovely poem! Your meter is wonderful, the rhyme, too, excellent, but it's the description of an horrific ailment that is so touching.
If I had any suggestion at all it would be that I had difficulty imaging anyone losing nine inches of height. I DO know we shrink as we age, but I don't think it is by more than an inch or two. I'm seventy-two and I haven't lost a full inch yet. *smile*
Nicely done though -- a beautiful poem.

my dad was 5 foot nine and I am 4 foot 11 and I got to the point where I was taller than he was. So it can happen.

Your story in a poem adequately describes the horror and pain of an illness that mercilessly robs its victims of the joy of precious memories. It is painful to be a loved one and realize there is no memory of you. Thank you for this thought provoking poem about Alzheimer's disease.

Another sad but important topic. There's a lady in my building who works as a nurse at a nursing home. One of the residents has dementia and she lies about and attacks the workers. The kids are heartbroken because it's far from her original personality. The mind is the most complex computer we have. It's a shame when it has bugs

Great! A wonderful, emotional poem that resonates with me. My dad had Alzheimer's, was in a care home, and got all mixed up with who was who. It is very sad, and this poem captures the horrible symptoms of this disease. The rhyming was perfect. Well done!

Alzheimer's or dementia is such a tragic way to finish out the end of one's life. Not being able to remember your achievements and adventures and especially not remembering family. How torturous for Lee to see his mother, and she doesn't know who he is. Very, very sad!
