I love this poem. It has all the reasons we celebrate on the fourth. We need to be reminded of patriotism and love of country more today than ever before as we face a challenging vote that will change us to a dictatorship or a socialistic state.

Hi Debi, a poem of truth and tribute to our veterans. My great-great grandfather fought for the Union during the civil war, and my dad, like your father, fought in WWII.

Hi Debi, you won't believe this, but the Fourth of July has always been celebrated in Denmark for many reasons. Our queen used to attend and the some American presidents and vice presidents as well. Look it up. I'm not making this up. Not many know about it, but I do and so do all Danes. Happy fourth of July. I'm proud being half American. Ulla xcx

Yes the battle is never won. My grandson Served six years in our Aif Forces a few years after the draft ended at 17 I could not get my Father to allow me to join the Marines with a buddy nut in civil serice as I call my time in the Military secret aircraft manufacturing business I was associted with the forst Star Wars missle to missing killing program Thanks for Sharing and Happy 4th of July

Thank you for your family's and boyfriend's service. I'm sorry for the pain it caused you. My dad was Navy Reserves until he graduated, then Air Force. He was too young for Korea and too old for Viet Nam. My hubby was Air Force during Nam and is 100% disabled from that part of his life. My son-in-law was Army during our last war, and is also disabled. It's so hard to know how to assist those who've given so much for us.

Lovely poem Debi. We can never honor enough, those who have sacrificed for all the rest of us. A part of me has always felt guilty because I never served in the military. When I was a senior in high school my random selective service number was 04 out of Lansing Michigan. Without question, I would've been called up once I graduated. Vietnam was running down and they abolished the draft in early 1972 just a couple months before I graduated. If drafted I would've gone, but when I graduated they weren't looking to increase the size of the military, they were decreasing it. (That last diatribe was evidence of my persistent guilt.)
Back to your poem. I like how you incorporated your losses but didn't restrict the affirmation to those of your own family. Thank you for acknowledging our military across the country across the centuries. This deserves a six star rating.
