I am so glad grandchildren have a place for you. My two girls, both over thirty, can go through life without a child, and I'd be fine with that, seeing that 50%+ of marriages are rent apart leaving the kids with one parent anyhow, and if that would happen I suspect my wife and I would be parenting again, and once was enough.

I love the story and I also love your notes. Interesting my children do that also - the birthday child chooses the meals for the day. A few years ago, Eleanor was having a little party and was to choose the food - broccoli and pears were the main items. I think my daughter helped her to choose some other favourites, but pears were included! Lovely post. Thanks for sharing.

I can hear it now. "Flight 209 is ready for takeoff to St Louis" Imagine that
What a blessing. That is why they are call grandchildren. Because they are. Good one, Barb.

While grandmas are usually the cream of the crop, pop pops are pretty special as well. I always keep some treats around for my middle great grandson, his older brother is surprised when I include him in the treats. The baby is still too young for treats, but when she gets older she will probably get the best and most. She is that special. It is going to be next to impossible to avoid spoiling her. Please pray fro me. :))

This was so delightful to read. How fun that the girls want you to be their lawyer to help negotiate with their parents when they feel the need. Those have to be learning moments for the girls. It's nice to know they can count on you. What a fun idea to get to eat whatever you want for your birthday. I'm sure the girls appreciate it and that your own kids did when they were little. It looks like the tradition was passed down.
Excellent writing as your love and pride for your family comes through.
Thank you for sharing.

This was very sweet, Barbara, and a wonderful message for your granddaughters about your love for them. I share these sentiments too.
I guess the next best thing to living close to grandchildren is the ability to at least facetime with them and talk to them face-to-face and see those cute little faces. This is such a wonderful gift you are giving them. - Jim

Dang it Barbara, they just get better and better, I should have saved a six for this one. We never knew the joys of children, but you certainly do a wonderful job of explaining the joys of grandchildren. Exceptional, story and notes! Terry.

I thought your letter was written how an unconditional loving grandma should write it.
Grandchildren tug at different parts of the heart then our children did.
I enjoyed your notes as much as the letter. Popcorn three times a day. Yea!
Cheers,
John

Oh, this melted my heart. And the part about "needing a lawyer" was fantastic:-) I don't have grandkids, and won't - my children do not want to bring children into the world. I hope you get to travel to see your little ones next weekend.
The only thing I would suggest you remove is the part about "right at twelve hours apart, if traffic is reasonable and no work zones." I don't think that's essential to the letter.
Cute picture - wish it were that easy for you.

You're probably right about the time. I will remove it. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi!
You've inspired me, Barbara, to start writing these letters for my grandchildren. And to send cards more regularly. So thank you for that.
Just a thought...
~ Although, we live far from each other, right at twelve hours apart, if traffic is reasonable and no work zones. >> The 'although' doesn't lead anywhere. I'd leave it off. I think the comma before 'right' is unnecessary, too. Just my thought. :)
My grandfather (Pop) always fixed us popcorn and fudge on Sunday nights after church. Momma would grumble about the lack of nutrition but Pop would assure her that eating an unhealthy meal once in a while was fine, that none of us would fade away because of his popcorn and homemade fudge.
Turns out, he was right.
I love that she chose popcorn! lol
Blessings and thanks for sharing,
Deb

Thank you for the kind support. I made the corrections. Your pop and I would get along perfectly.
