A truly enjoyable read. You certainly have a gift for free verse poetry. You breathed life into an inanimate object and described it's character.

Cleverly composed. Compelling.

Congratulations on your fiftieth post. Keep up the great work.

A powerful and moving poem about the ravages of time and how nothing can withstand the passage of time. Time wears everything down, including an ancient pier.

    Jacquelyn,
Yes 50 posts is a bit surprising. Never thought I would have enough material to pump that many posts out of me. Still it has been an enjoyable ride. Thanks also for taking the time to read and review my poem. Glad you enjoyed it.
Take care and have a great day.

Excellent poem about The sea and piers. Good entry for the Rhyming Poetry Contest. The rhymes and meter are not forced and they flow well.

the structure makes sense, it draws on emotions and it presents strong images.

You brought the pier to life here with your well chosen words and memories from long ago. I loved your descriptions, the voices and the ghosts, the incessant tide and how the pier can sometimes be a lonely place. You left me with thought of this manmade structure at the seaside that we love to walk on and point to ships and then leave it to its fate out to sea as the waves come crashing. I enjoyed the ride here, good rhymes, a slightly uneven metre in places, but a very enjoyable write, you have a repeated word (with) in the penultimate stanza, congratulations on your 50th post Barry, love Dolly x

Thanks Dolly. Quite surprised myself getting to the 50. Looks like I have to aim for the big 100 now. Thanks also for picking out the repeated word. Now rectified.
Piers create there own mini ecosystem . To me they are fascinating structures.
Take care and have a great day.

Barry, congrats on your milestone! I really like this eulogy to the Pier. You make us see it--both now and then. And you evoke pathos for the Speaker who obviously misses it as it symbolizes his youth. One slight flaw: Omit a WITH iin stanza six. Rod

This work has reached the exceptional level

Beautiful flow and rhythm.
Not just a poem, but a story as well.
And yes, it does have tales to tell, I think you saw them in its weathered structure.
I especially liked the line, "of countless voices echoing in the pavilion stark and bare."
Wonderful job.

    Rebecca,
Thanks for the six stars. I am always blown away if I receive them. Glad you liked the poem. In fact, it is personally one of my favourites.
Piers, wherever they are, always have their own eco systems which includes the humans who use them.
Take care and have a great day.

Congratulations on your fiftieth post, Barry. This is a sad poem. Many of the older structures, up and down the coast, are going to fall prey to the rising water level in the oceans.

Thanks Paul. Never thought I had 50 posts in me. Now I will have to aim for the big 100. Great that you found the poem to your liking, although sad.
Yes rising sea levels will eventually grab most of them but while they are there I hope people can enjoy them.
I trust you are well. Take care.

Very nice poem! Rhyming, cadence and flow spot on! A special conglomerant of words which speaks of aging and times past. The natural decay that occurs with age living or otherwise shown in decrepit
