Let's see, when we are in our prime, gender and geography play a role: In the poll, men said the perfect age is 47, and women 53. In the Midwest, the perfect age is 50. In the East, it's 53, and the West it's 47. What's the prime age for a woman? "A woman's prime is between the ages of 28 and 45," he said.

Rosemary, very interesting. Thank you for reading. Terry.

Excellent essay about the lost years that seem to go so slowly, but in reality fly by when we are not looking. But it's good to look back and savor them again, at our leisure this time, because sometimes that's all we got left! Leisure.

Nicely written, easy to read and enjoy. You make a great shift in the piece from discussing others to engaging the reader about the writer. Your graphic is beautiful and I can see the connection to your work.

This is great, though I genuinely think if I weren't past my prime, too, I would enjoy it way more. I had to take my head out of the sand to read this, don'tcha know, and that's how I was able to start enumerating all the ways I'm no longer in my prime. *Sighhh* The number is so high already, I've exhausted myself. Damn you, Terry Broxson!

Great commentary. Have you seen The Thorn Birds? It had the greatest line by Barbara Stanwyick to Richard Chamberlain when she tried to get him to kiss her. She told him that in her mind she still felt young (paraphrased) and I think she was right. My mind didn't age with my body. Some of my thoughts are different, but overall I think and feel (except for the aches and pains) just like I did then. I'm sorry I don't have a six, because you would have it. Enjoy your day. Shirley

Shirley, thank you for reading, and yes I remember the Thorn Birds, a great mini series. Prime is just a state of mind. Terry.

It's hard to pin down what exactly is meant by being in one's prime. Age wise, I suppose I was in my prime in my twenties, but I didn't know all that much. Didn't know where I was going or what I wanted if and when I ever got there. Mentally and emotionally, I'm much more in my prime now. I know things now like, the world isn't a bed or roses, not everyone gets what they deserve, and not everything is okay in the end. I've learned that I'm strong enough to take care of myself, but sometimes I do need a little help from a friend. You can't take everyone at face value but there a lot of really good people in the world, etc. I didn't mean to get off on a tangent, but you set me thinking. I think that "being in one's prime" is based more on how one holds their place in the world than how old they are at any given time. I'd say you're in your prime now. Just saying...

I loved this, Terry, and could so identify with it. It was humorous and oh so true.
The way I deal with it is by breaking my life into parts. I may no longer be in my prime physically or in anything involving my body, but I'm playing bridge and writing better than in my youth, so, in those areas, I'm in my prime.

Jim, thank you for reading. If late-night bridge was a course in college, It was my major. But I have not played since those days. Terry.

What an unusual, typical Terry piece of prose. The text is a great size and well written. Sadly, men hit their prime before women do. I read that in some psychology book back in the day. I thought about it then, but never thought about it again until I dated a man nine years younger. I decided at some point during that dating mistake that i preferred men that weren't in their prime because prime doesn't mean ripe for the picking. At least that was the case for this Virginia broad. Thanks for a good read.

You are welcome. Try to have a 🌲Merry Christmas 🌲and all the best in 🥂2023. I was glad Debi's poem about you won. A poem about a man like you should always be a winner!

I guess I am no longer in my prime as I could relate to just about all of this. I love your sense of humor and the way you used it to celebrate where you are in your life now. And I, for one, am glad you are writing. I look forward to reading more of your work.

Hello Terry,
I guess that so much time has passed that I can't really recall when I was in my prime. Physically of course, it was many years ago. My boys used to think I would never slow down. Then, one day out hunting, they realized I couldn't keep up with them. They had surpassed me physically. I think it was hard for them to accept that I was getting older. As several people mentioned, you might be approaching your prime as a writer, but maybe not. Maybe you haven't attained it yet. Something to look forward to I guess. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.
