A beautifully written poem of love, loss and memory. Vivid imagery of the forest and your sweetheart, I felt I was there too. It's funny as we get older how those special treasured memories become so real to us once more. Thanks for sharing Franky

Hi, Franky! Thank you for reading, your kind, encouraging comments, and all those stars! And, it is so true, as we mature(!), old, treasured memories come back to us, as clear as they were the day and night they happened.
Thanks for stopping by!

This is a powerful poem that deserves its place as a highly recognized piece of writing. I especially liked the sense of loss created at the beginning of the poem.

Some of my favorite times were spent in the woods or along a river with fish to catch. What a wonderfully written poem to a dear friend. Best of luck with your writing!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Hi, Mike, thank you so much for reading, your encouraging comments, and all those stars! The Big Horn River runs through town here, great fishing, and a great time watching the ducks and geese.

Dear Irish, I found this to be a poignant and moving memoir. I love the slant rhyming, and the melancholy note prevails throughout. Superb writing, one of your best! I especially like the Spanish galleons, very effective imigary.
Blessings,
Brother Badger

Ah, makes me sigh to read you once again, Irish! Your poetic voice is, as always, gentle, romantic, masculin with a touch of melancholy. There is an earnestness in your stanzas, the meaning never sacrificed to the rhymes. I'm sorry you lost a friend. Your words touch me. I hope you're well, my friend.

I am humbled! So happy to see you here again! Thank you for reading, the very special insight, and the galaxy of stars! While I was overseas in the US Navy, my Mom wrote that this beautiful, sensitive young lady had taken her life. I feel that by honoring her memory I keep her alive in my heart.
Hope you are back to writing and posting, miss you here!

This is a very beautiful poem and I believe a beautiful memory of a very dear friend. You were lucky to have the woods and your friend. Last summer I got lost with a friend I had known for 65 years. I had never been lost before in the woods. We stayed overnight trying desperately to get out. The next day we were rescued. I wasn't proud, nor was I ashamed. I was with my friend. Later, my friend Pat told me that was the highlight of his summer. Interesting.

Wow, what an adventure you had, lost in the woods! Wondered if you had water or snacks with you? Neat that Pat looked back on that as his highlight, coulda been worse.
Thank you for reading, and all the stars!

You are most welcome. No water and no snacks for Pat and my little adventure. We did drink some water from a leech infested pond that was pretty dirty. But we didn?t get that sick, just dehydrated.
