I enjoyed your duo-rhyme for the club, Mary. Your lines read well with correct rhymes on the right lines. Your words flow smoothly with great imagery. In a few lines you were able to tell a great story of family, fun, and special times. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Thanks for your excellent and beautiful review, Jan. It was a pleasure to write it and to recall those lighthearted days by the ocean with the people I loved, a few of whom are still in my life. Time passes so quickly!

A lovely duo rhyme that is 'bookended' by rhymes of the family/beach and filled from end-to-end with the fun and the visions had by all! :) ;) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

And your mom did a fine job of making your summers memorable.

There is nothing like the beach when you're young and of course only when you stay in the line of sight.

Excellent tone to your duo rhyme, Mary and a fine addition to the Potlatch Club.

Gloria

Great job with you Duo Rhyme poem, Mary Kay. Appreciate you sharing your lovely summer times with family. I wish I had that as my family was too far away!

Thank you so much for your excellent review, Helen! I was under the impression that you spent your childhood in Hawaii with your family -- in the house by the frangipani tree? And the dog that barked like crazy when a strange lady came by to pick the flowers? For which part of your childhood was your family far away? That sounds sad.

You had grandparents you could visit. My relatives were in Korea. ☺

Ohhh! That's what you meant. We didn't visit our grandparents at the beach. They took care of us because our parents were separated (later divorced) and Mom had to work during the day. But because they were retired, they were free to stay with us in a rented house by the shore. Mom stayed in the city, working, and came out to either Long Island or New Jersey on weekends.
Sometimes we didn't even have to rent a house -- Mom was resourceful. She would find families who wanted to travel to Europe, and welcomed the idea of a family to move in and watch their home (and in one case, their dog) for little or no financial compensation.
We saw my Dad, but all year round only one day per week, on weekends. I think that for at least one of those summers, he was serving in the Air Force, stateside, and we didn't see him for awhile. We did see his parents. So we were blessed to know all of our grandparents. I'm sorry you didn't get to see yours!

Thank you so much, Doc Ricky, and you're very welcome to come along for the ride! "Is there a Doctor in the house?" Oh, it's you!
I appreciate the lovely things you said about my poem. "Those were the days, my friend..."
    God bless you.

Thanks for taking on a trip down memory lane. Childhood memories of delightful places with delightful people always help sustain us in the lean times when we are unable to go to those pleasant places. We can always go in our minds.

I had to stay in line of sight, too. How sweet and nostalgic this is, Mary Kay. Just right. The duo-rhyme is not any easy for with the meter and rhyme. You did a great job with it. I loved the finish, the days off were meant for this.
Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the challenge.
Sally xoxo
