The Vietnam War should have never happened. We lost over 500,000 in that police actions. We are still losing becasue of suicides. This is very well written.

I think the actual count was closer to 550,000. I don't have the data on suicides and wrecked lives. You're welcome. Charlie

Your father's service is much appreciated, I do believe he paid the ultimate sacrifice and am sorry you did not grow up with this great man in your life. Though I enjoyed the content, the meter got very rough for me. I also believe "his name is on a wall a Vietnam vet" needs some punctuation. All in all, good work, much appreciated

I think you speak for a lot of young adults, those who are parents themselves now, but who never had more than a name, a picture, and some stories for a father.

War just costs too much!

keimosobie:

War is hell and has made many single parent
families and even more orphans -- I'm sure
that's not one of the statistics kept by
the war department but it should be -- the
innocent victims whose lives are forever
changed due to the will of the politicians

these couplets are really powerful
thanks for sharing

Wonderful tribute to your dad. I am so sorry that you never
knew him. Your poem was beautiful and touching. I hate
wars and I would never want my son to go either.
Nice work.
Best of luck,
Joyce

keimosobie,

I'm glad you did say 'I love you Dad' and you did it
with this poem as well. You have honored him well in
this well written, well rhymed piece. I am glad you
do have a photo of him - so young and handsome.

I like your gift of love ending and thanks to God in
spite of your loss.

Linda

What a terrible war that was. I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words that I can say that would make this better. Your poem affected me deeply and my heart aches for you and for your child who will never know his grandfather.

Your poem is heartbreaking, and I agree with you that war is usually initiated for greed. Just think, we could take the money being used to fund two wars and help our great Country get out of debt.

Too many lives were lost in that war and all wars. Great job of telling your story.

he was three years older then my son - I think then should be than..
I see you used very few caps but I believe God should be capitalized.
Well done, Buck
