This is a great poem about mencholy. It is hard sometimes to move into the euphoria, when all the world seems coloured in shades of black. Sometimes, every silver lining does have a black cloud attached to it. Usseless statments like "cheer up!" Sound like rebukes and only add to the depression. Often, the best way out of this frame of mind, is to change your scenery, if not in reality, then through writing. Good work here. Rose.

Rose, you are so right in saying that "cheer up" feels like a rebuke. Very well put. Thank you very much for your generous review and comments. Sue

Very well written poem about depression. You portray the mysteries of depression quite well. Even when things look look, people with depression see darkness.

You sure captured the mood of darkness
in this excellent poem that you can
actually feel as you linger in the lines.
Strange how the veil of darkness can cover
our moods at any time with clouds that
come and go throughout our lives.

What a true and excellent portrayal of depression, SK. Now matter how lovely others may SAY it is, we are often in a place of not being able to recognize that. Thought the first stanza to be superb, and the one I liked most. Funny, you should talk about 'potholes' as, our message at church yesterday was about potholes, and how we all hit them from time to time, and how that can throw us off track, leaving us in need of an 'alignment'.

Very powerful. Thanks for sharing, and sure hope things start to look up for you soon. Take care,
Heather

Your verses and the rhyme scheme make this poem very good.
I like the images: they show how depression lives even among the most normal of activites around us.
Very well done.

Sue, oh, the fruitful mind of a poet. Oh, the empty mind of certain readers of poetry. A reader who admires how beautifully a poet may write, yet seldom understand what he just read. That, my friend, is a combination that cannot be described. We were meant for each other, Sue. lol

Reggie, you know that I love you for your 'feeble mind'. As I have a crippled one, we certainly do make a great pair! HA! Now, go gather up a posse and get some vigilantism going!! :-)) Sue

Good morning poet friend Sue. You have penned the feelings and thoughts of how the melancholy way has it's way with our thoughts and tends to control our life. I enjoyed, Loyd
