A fine tribute to the working class man. Sometimes an economic downturn pulls everyone together in a common need for support. It that way it reminds us all that we are part of the whole. Good thoughts for the times.

The story of the working stiff. Such an old story and it continues to be told - is anyone even listening? Probably not. Until this country addresses this failure, it will always find itself in hock and wanting . Nicely penned. Don

Very good and I fully support your sentiments. Your minute poem is well structured, rhymed and metered.

Now BIG GOVERNMENT is contemplating a stimulus package containing little stimulation.

Maybe layoffs should start at the top.

Sixteezkid, I love the minute format, and it is perfect for this poem. I agree with all you've said. Ever since I can remember that blue-collar man has taken care of his family. What heartbreak that our country is in such straits now that these men must struggle to find a way to meet their families basic needs now. Thanks for sharing.

If you don't mind, I'm going to promote this one. I think everyone should read it. It burns me when I hear people say they illegals, for example will do jobs Americans won't. I worked as a trash collector, I painted houses, pulled weeds out of gladiola garden and mopped the locker room floor at college. I was proud to do all those jobs. (I was also proud to run a large asset management co., years later).

Great poem

Fred, how cool of you! Thanks so much for that! I hear you loud and clear, my friend. I worked at McDonalds, waited tables, etc. with pride. You said you ran a large asset management co. Strictly private investment? Or institutional? Again, thanks for that boost. (My dad was a ceramic tile layer. He was so proud of each and every job he finished). With regards, Sue

This is a good poem, but I really want to read the one that comes out of your author's notes, especially the last paragraph. Standing up for the Middle Class is what everyone does (not that there's anything wrong with that). Exposing the Emperor's New Clothes (which is what you imply in the last paragraph) - that's not something that's done every day.

I hope this helps and good luck.

I have thought about writing a series on these issues. My problem is I get so worked up! I started one about the Fed Govt. getting so corrupt, I thought of barnacles and oxidation and all kinds of words came to me. Maybe your comments here will get me onto it. My hair is standing up on end right now! HA! Thanks so much for your great review and some encouragement. Sue

I agree with you 100%. My family has always been the working class; I admire my dad for all he has done in his lifetime, and his father before that (my grandpa grew up in Arkansas and only made it to the third grade, trading in education for hard work that included lots of construction work and service in the army).

Thank you for sharing this important message with us!

Thanks for sharing your story. I, too, come from a middle class, working class, family. Hard work is all they loved. Sure, they got tired, but they were proud of all they did. Thanks for your great review. Always appreciated, Sue

Sixteezkid, like you, I believe the reason this country is in such trouble right now is the powers that be have completely forgotten about the "middle man/woman/families, blue-collared workers upon whom's strength and integrity this country was built. Once we got into trouble, the whole country began crumbling. Until the middle class is once again shored up, the foundation of this country is in danger of total collapse. Excellent minute poem.

Just excellent, Sk. My ex-husband is a construction worker, and my sons are following suit. It's hard work and it's GOOD work! Like how you've shown it to be that. Not sure we're feeling it the way you guys are, but seeing how much the trades are needed more than ever. thanks so much for sharing this one. Take care,
heather

HOPING it stays that way for your family! Construction work is a noble occupation. I've been around it all my life. Thanks so much for your great review. Always appreciated...Sue
