There is one nit. You misspelled missiles. Apart from that this poem is poignant in its accuracy and the message is much needed and timely.

this is a powerful poem with great meaning but the contest says each stanza the first word and last word must be opposite and same syllable count. Hell and Heaven arent the same. if I am wrong or you change it I will change my rating.

Yes, you are right. I misunderstood the instructions. Will have to withdraw from the contest because I like the poem as it is! But no bother. At least it prompted me to write! HA! Thanks very much for your review and bringing this to my attention. With regards, Sue

A big "AHA" moment. Instead of hell, I used "Hades". If you'd like to re-review, that would be great! Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention! Sue

Kinda scary in an apocolyptic way. Of course, they have been fighting amongst themselves for as long as they've been around. How do I know? 'Cause the Bible tells me so! lol!
Great work cuz, clearly something to keep an eye on.

Okay, I know it's war, but when I read your "bible told me so", I laughed my ass off!! You are TOO funny! LOL!!!!! 5,000 years of smiting and smoting between Hittites, Philistines, this "ites" those "ites" - everywhere an ites - ites. Oh, 'my bad?? Okay, I'll get serious now. This s**t is hitting the fan. And I don't believe any cease-fire will hold there. Egypt just brokered one a few days ago and now it's broken. Thanks for your review, Cuz. Always love to hear from you. :-)) Sue

That tiny slither of land, causes so much destruction. Just because people refuse to get along with other people. Though we(Britain) did mess it up in the late 40's.

"Where all sides seek no peace."<--- Bullseye.
No-one has ever won a war....

Well, as always, 20/20 is excellent hindsight. If Britain knew at the time what could/would be the outcome, who knows what Plan B would have been. Anyway, here it goes again. It was only 2 years ago that Israel had that war with Hezbollah. Never ending. Thanks so much for your review. Hey...missed you! Have I missed any of your work?? Or was it just because of the Holidays? :-) Sue

I've always felt that we feel guilty for not destroying Auswitch, or at least the train line and all the other horrors that they went through.
No, I'm down with this blasted flu. Just when you think it's safe to go out, I wake up with Flu 2, the return of the flu, the angry flu. Hope you're tip top...x

You wanna hear something REAL weird? When I was a kid (maybe 7 to 9 years), I used to LOVE getting the flu or strep so I could miss out on school and watch the 1:00 movie on the television! HA!!!! Back in those days, there was no video and you watched movies when the network put it on. And then, there was an afternoon one called "The 1:00 Movie". (I'm like Woody Allen in how much I love film).

And Mom would tuck me in on the sofa with blankets and give me my Ginger Ale. I'm not quite sure why I'm writing this because I don't even think I've ever told anyone. LMAO!!!

But, the flu sure ain't a fun thing when we get older. Sorry you're laid up. Thank goodness for the internet these days. Something to do while we heal. Get Well Soon!!

HAHA, I even enjoyed the chicken pox, mumps and measles for similar reasons....

Get OUT! Are you serious or just playin' with me??
reply by Algernon on 03-Jan-2009
No, it's true. I kept the German measles secret, as I had soccer trials....
reply by Algernon on 03-Jan-2009
Oh yeah, it was Twizzle on TV, they even sang, If you've got the measles or if you've got the mumps..... Did you not catch those?
reply by the author on 03-Jan-2009
Mumps when I was only about a year old. Don't remember.

But the measles! Now, THAT was a true delight! 2 weeks at home! HA!! Just joking on that one. It was brutal. I was 6 years old and just lied there for 2 weeks with high fever. Mom kept the drapes closed due to the sun. Now that I know more about the measles, I do believe I had a very serious case. I didn't know people died from it.

But, let's talk strep throat! HA!! I had such a bad set of tonsils, I got strep constantly! Have no idea why the doc waited until I was 14 to pull those diseased things. But, at the time, they served me well to keep me home to watch my beloved films. LMAO!! Can't believe I'm telling a complete stranger across the pond about this "sick" mental disorder I had. HA!!!
reply by Algernon on 03-Jan-2009
No sure what Strep is? But at age 6 I had mine yanked out, up London.
The nurses put me on the trolly and took me to different wards to see other patients. I got heaps of sweets and chocky. Plus other mums and folk brought me in nice things. I played on it. At night the nurses sat me in the kitchen and gave me hot drinks and sweets.

Weird, I had no idea it was dangerous until I had my son. But being one of nine kids, I enjoyed the attention..HAHA

We are of kindred spirit! LMAO!!! You "played on it" HA! So did I. streptococcus is a very dangerous bacteria. It can attack the throat and leaves your throat and tonsils lined with a white color. If no anti-biotics taken, it can go to the heart and damage it seriously. I was always on penicillin.

Cease fire without no cease - I have CNN on right now and have been listening to coverage and analysis as I saw your poem's title and immediately clicked on it. No shock in a fight where no one seeks peace - how sad but true. Families strive to stay alive in this Hell on earth - one can only cry.

Very powerful post, Sue.
I'm no expert on the Middle East, but I suspect they DO want peace, but on their terms. There seems no middle-ground for negotiation. It must be a nightmare ta live in these violent zones, and makes us realise our problems are minute compared. I do so hope they can work things out sooner rather than later. Excellent writing. Ray xx

Thanks, Ray. This is supposed to be in the Leykhin Poem Contest. But, as usual, I messed it up. Waiting for Tom to fix it for me. Yeah, Israeli ground troops have just moved into the Gaza Strip. I believe Hamas most certainly wants this because even after Egypt negotiated the cease-fire, Hamas kept lobbing mortars (80 just on Christmas Day alone) into Israel. So, this is bad, bad news. Thanks for your most generous review. Sue
