The attention to detail here puts us right there on the flight with you, and your tale is a tale of the difficulties of long distance flights with young kids with issues. Also the frustrations of air travel and all the delays and equipment malfunctions you have to deal with. The whole trick is the difficult task of juggling all these things at once, the onery kids, the delays, the difficulties in shipping household items to foreign countries, separations due to military service and being alone with the kids for months at a time. Luckily I haven't had too many issues with flights, I had one cancelled and had to rebook on the fly, but managed to get back from Raleigh to New York after a few hours. It's a long flight to Germany, but twice as long getting back. estory

AIT, (Advanced Individual Training,) - change to AIT (Advanced Individual Training),
I've been on flights like that with my young kids, but never for as long as you were. At least you had an understanding community behind you. Gives us insight into what that camaraderie is all about.
Congratulations on 47 years; now, THAT is something to write about!
Much enjoyed, Barbara.

Sorry, but a laughed. More than once. Being a military man I know the nonsense you had to deal with!
This is truly the best solution:
The secret, be more stubborn than they are.
In this sentence would it be 'to' instead of 'too'? Not sure;
Brian had too
Good stuff!

Probably, I changed it. Thank you for understanding. I have another military story; I'll probably write up soon.

Very difficult to be a military wife and to have to do a lot of the parenting single-handed. And the travelling to Germany would have been difficult under any circumstances, let alone with sick and fractious little ones. Congratulations therefore on forty-seven years of marriage!

That's quite a story, Barb. I was never in the military, so my wife never had to endure the things that you went through. You should have received combat pay for that experience.

Thank you for the kind review. There's a reason the divorce rate is high in the military.

Well, at least you have Fan Story to write out all those frustrating circumstances. I could never handle all those matters the way you did. You deserve a medal! You did earn my gratitude for a fine story.

You opened my eyes, and many readers' eyes to that problem.

Oh my! Poor you! Poor little Andrew with the pain in his ears. There's an acupressure massage to help with those ear problems on the plane but I don't know if you can get a little one to cooperate.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for mentioning Iza's post! She's not here regularly and it would be nice if more people met her.

I could not have been a military spouse, My first husband talked about joining the service, and I told him that if he joined I would divorce him. I could not have someone else I never met making my choices for me. I applaud all of the husbands and wives of military people. They serve as much as their spouses in my opinion. Riveting story too. You told it quite well. Poor andrew. I thought chewing gum helped.

Barbara, that whole journey sounded horrendous and I can imagine the extent of your anger and cursing! I mean someone's got to be the target of all that build-up of adrenaline. Also, your inevitable apprehension that this episode in your life was going to work out. Clearly it did and you're now heading for your golden anniversary. Well done! Debbie
