This poem, The Pianist in the Tyrolian Hat, tells a bit of background for Chiko and the way he led his life into ruin. This short peek into his life says a lot about what is presented and what exists.

Jim,
I absolutely love your take on Chico Marx.
The 4, sometimes 5, brothers make me laugh out loud.
I'm sorry to find out this brother, Chico, lead such a hard life.
Jim, this a sad, but wonderful ode to one of the funniest men in the 20th century.
Best wishes,
Cindy

I never knew that about Chico, I certainly knew about the brothers Marx, Groucho Harpo and Chico, he playing the piano, so we'll too, and Hatpo playing the harp of course, don't know about Groucho, I liked a day at the races. Thank you for writing such a wonderful post about their goings on, well done, blessings Roy

Sorry for my tardiness in replying. Thank you. Sometimes it helps to read of others who did not allow God to guide them to motivate others to live a better life.

a great poem about the marx brothers loved it like the images and the following lines
Married twice, a loving father
He should have reveled in his life
But he was undone by personal demons
Cutting through him like a knife

I really don't know the Marx Brothers. I only know that Harpo didn't talk. Is there a story around that? Thanks for sharing about Chico and his talents and alas, his downfall due to gambling.

Sorry for my tardiness in replying. Whole books can be, and have been written about the Marx Bros. Their lives were changed by their wealth and fame, but Chico was the worst. When aked how much money he lost through his vices, Chico answered, "Ask Harpo how much money he has and that's how much I lost."

Quite the characters, watching them on the tube, the Marx Brothers could keep me in stitches. Humorous comedy that most always reminded viewers of someone they knew. Thanks for sharing.

I've always enjoyed the Marx Brothers. Harpo was my favorite, but Chico, with his accent and "mispronunciations," always made me laugh. I never really knew anything about him, so I'm grateful for what you've just taught me. And I'd always rather have a lesson taught in fun poetic form than in dry prose. I enjoyed your rhymes. I also very much enjoyed the clip you attached. When we think of the Marx Brothers, we tend to think of their humor. It's too easy to forget what incredible musicians Chico and Harpo were.
FYI, my mom's father knew the Marx Brothers, as he operated certain nightclubs in which they performed.

Sorry for my tardiness in replying. Wish I could have met and spoken with your grandfather!
-
No problem, Jim. FYI, I never met my grandfather, but I heard the stories from my mom.
-
My father had many stories about vaudeville and celebs he saw, but I was too immature at the time to her more.
-
My late cousin Joan was a Broadway producer, and she and her fellow producers won the Tony for the show "Sideman." She knew lots and lots of celebrities--exactly zero of whom I got to meet! She was too discreet to tell many stories, but I do have one. She and her husband (who was a director at the time) were living in California, and threw a barbecue for their local friends, many of whom were celebrities. Her young niece, Traci, from NY, was visiting California with her parents, and Joan invited her to join. A nice man at the barbecue introduced himself to Traci as Chuck. Traci was too young to realize that she'd just shaken hands with Moses. "Chuck" was Charleton Heston.
-
When I was visiting Hollywood, I met Chuck, also. But my Chuck was Chuck McCann, children's tv host, Oliver Hardy impersonator, and co-star of "Heart Is A Lonely Hunter".
-
I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Chuck McCann appeared in every show I watched.
-
I'm glad someone out there remembers him. He called me and my two buddies, "The Three Crazy Guys".
-
And this was strange why?? (Tee hee.) Was he as nice a person as he always seemed on TV?
-
He seemed very congenial. He was hangin' with Jack Riley who played Mr. Carlin on The Bob Newhart Show.
