This for shadowing points to a cautionary tale slowly developing: "Dewey looks me in the eye. "No, he's gonna hurt someone real bad. I know it." The reader isn't quite sure which way this is going to go. But they do know it won't be pretty. I bet she saw the father peeking in. This is quite suspenseful well done. No I'll have a third book on my list of yours to read.

Oy. My stomach just dropped a hundred floors. I know who it is, and I know what's up because of Dewey's foreshadowing. Oy. I am too invested to stop reading, but the chickenshit side of me wants to. You've doing such a great job with this, Gretchen. xoxo

Maybe it was the abusive father who was peeking in Lynn's window. This is a great chapter in your book. I don't understand the whole abuse thing; some folk's brains are tainted, I suppose.
God bless,
Steve

I don't understand it, myself, but I can understand the emotions of their victims. I'm guessing almost every moment of the day is high alert flight or fight instincts. Thank you so much for this. Gretchen

Another excellent chapter with heart-breaking detail about the abuse on Dewey. There is real, palpable anger and lust for revenge building up in the boy now and Huck is needed to try and calm everything down. Love the transition from the coloured glass to Huck's happier memories and away from the darkness of the family situation. One small edit: I though(t) I saw someone peekin' in the winda...
Well done, Gretchen! Debbie

Thank you so much. I love your reviews because you get to the meat and potatoes of the writing. And thank you for the edit. Gretchen

This is a very nicely written chapter for your book and I wish you the very best with your book. The wording moves along very smoothly and your satin structure and your paragraphing is excellent. May you have a very good day and a very good month. Patricia.

People like.the boy's dad make my blood boil, they are are mean, bad tempered l violent miscreants that don't belong in this world, but they may pick on the wrong person one day, and Dewey could be it, hate needs an outlet, and perhaps their dad will come a cropper, beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

Nicely written.
You left us with a great cliffhanger. What, or who did Lynn see? Is she in danger? Is there a major plot point coming?
Best wishes.

I'm sure someone is going to get hurt and I don't know if it is Miss Lynn or Huck or at some point Dewey is going end up killing his daddy. This is a situation that is sure to blow up at some point.
