Very nicely written, and the yin and yang artwork help in understanding the concept of polarity.

Without night there would be no day, and vice versa. Life needs the arcing that happens between a minimum of two variables.

Wishing you great luck with the Contest Committee. :)

Beautifully scribed, Melissa. The philosophy of life is complex. You write of a deep underlying truth, although I see our existence as more nuanced.
Wishing you the best in the contest with this thought-provoking entry.

Blessings, Julia

Your words are simple and fit the poetic form and yet there is depth of wisdom. It reminds me of the quote the Debbie D'Arcy included of Rudyard Kipling about our attitudes to Triumph and Disaster. Without these contrasts we wouldn't recognize them. Best wishes in the contest!

This is truly true, and I am glad to see you write again, or have I been in a coma and missed a few postings? I, myself, am on a sabbatical, it seems, as no contest challenge has lifted me to lift my pen or pound the keyboard. Yin and Yang. good and evil. Neither would be without the other.

I already know you do these short verses with style and resounding message. This is no exception. Your 5 line verse fluently and skilfully conveys the fact that we all need opposite emotions which in turn enable us to have a balanced understanding of ourselves and the world around us. An excellent 'winner' in my view! Good luck! Debbie

This is a very clever five line poem Melissa, if we never felt pain, we would understand it, if we never knew sadness we'd never know joy, if we could not hear..., well done, blessings Roy

So true. Experiencing highs and lows in life is just part of it. It's good when good comes along to balance out the bad. It would not be natural for a person to experience only the good. Even when people are going through a rough patch, there are surely going to good things to cheer them up. I think you'd be suicidal if you had only bad things going on in your life. Really thought-provoking. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Just gorgeous, Melissa, and so true!
Definitely a symbiotic union between the "high and lows" of life; that is for certain.

You might consider increasing the font of your beautiful offering, Melissa. Just a tad bit small for my old eyes!

Happy 4th of July!
Fondly,
diane

Very thought-provoking piece about the way our journey through life brings us to the deepest valleys as well as the highest mountains. And we need to learn how to navigate through both in order to embrace our happiness.

Hi Sugarray, Melissa, your poem is a poem of truth, and it has great sensory appeal. It guess it's the yin and yang of life that keeps us balanced, and keeps us going. Great photo choice. Well done. Xo. M
