What a fascinating story, John! This is so well chosen because of his quite incredible heroism and humility, not to mention athleticism. It's a really inspiring read, eloquently told, and actually makes me feel quite emotional. Could I just be a bit picky and mention two things: "Little at a time he told his son (this is a bit confusing, perhaps better saying "(A) little at a time...." Also "...his story of his wartime activities (was) finally told.."

When Gino returned to Italy, he like many Italians - This sentence needs a couple of commas surrounding the parenthetical phrase 'like many Italians'.
