Another excellent chapter with your characters, as ever, emerging strongly and becoming a delight to know! Mattie sounds wonderful (perhaps a bit annoying if she never lifts a finger) and the relationship between the two of you captures that special reciprocal quality between the young and the old. No errors noted and an enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing, Beth! Debbie

What a delightful continuation of your saga. When I lived in CT, we lived near a small airport where you could go for flying lessons in q small plane. I wanted to go, but my wife was against it, and I listened to her. I remember when very young, I asked my mom about airplanes. She said it was like a bus in the sky. I never could figure out how a bus could fly. Now, I've been in enough for the thrill to wear off.

Nicely written.
Mattie wouldn't last around my bunch - either side of the family. mom would pack her bag for her.
I sure would have liked to have flown in that airplane. But I don't see how it was going to increase airport business by taking kids up.
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne. You're right. Mattie should have been sent packing. Maybe Mr. Jumper was hoping to spread good will by giving kids cheap rides. He was new in town and wanted to call attention to the improvement he'd made to the airport.

Beth, This is another very interesting story you have written for us to read. I remember when I was young my grandma would dip snuff too. I didn't like that. You used great descriptive words. Thank you for sharing my friend. love and blessings, Teri

Thank you Teri. It was strange to me that was something women would do. I don't think many of them smoked back then though. Snuff is nasty. Thanks of the review.

This work has reached the exceptional level

I picture you as the daredevil type who is or never has been to afraid of anything. That doesn't mean you weren't cautious and calculated, just always ready for some excitement. Which reminds me of myself LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank You, Ric. Maybe no one had told me yet that plane actually could crash. I wasn't concerned about it at the time and I did enjoy my little adventure. Thank for the six stars.

What is a lifke?

Did you know those "optical illusions" of the first paragraph can weigh up to one million pounds and float aimlessly along?

"Two cents a pound" a fair rate for an airplane flight. Would not get anywhere near that kind of rate these days.

Watching airplanes would be a fun adventure for a youngster.

Flying upside down, what a blast that would have been!

Would not put snuff in my mouth either. The "brown powder" may resemble cocoa powder, but it tastes N - A - S - T - Y!

In bottom Notes: "he" should be The.

Thank you Brett. It was ane exciting ride and I'm surprised as I think back that it really didn't scare me. If I'd been a little older it might have.

Love the plane ride. I went up my first time about the age of ten very similar in the same. We had a WW2 pilot hero who loved taking kids up for their first time. Good one, BETH

I enjoyed both of your stories. I never had your fascination with birds, but I did get to ride in a plane with my dad that was piloted by a man named Orville Blimyer. (Odd that I would remember that when I can't remember the names of people I know, and I only met him once!) He did tricks in the air, too, which I didn't especially enjoy. I'm sure Mattie was glad to have someone around who liked her.

Thank you Verna. I glad you like this. You probably remembered the name because you associated it with Orville Wright.

I always enjoy reading your memoirs and this one is not different. Thank you for sharing.

"What do you think about all this?" Dad asked me. "Would you want to go up in the air in a plane?" (You can omit 'me'. Who else was he speaking with??)

I nodded, and he told me to hold on tight because It would feel funny for a minute. (lower case 'i' on 'it')

Mom wasn't' too pleased that he didn't tell her what he planned to do before we did it. (omit 'that')

Thank you Barhara. I appreciate the review. It is hard for me to believe, I was so willing to go up with a stranger. I probably didn't realize it was possible for plane to crash.
