Hahaha! This is hilarious. I think the rhythm and flow of each stanza makes the subject of the poem work so well. It fits right into the old cliche, "The way to a man's heart..." I'm a woman and have met other women who fits the description of the good cook in your poem. Thanks for sharing.

a wonderful ode to the joy of your mother's cooking. I can relate. I grew up with a mother who cooked southern style having grown up in Arkansas. I was the only kid I knew who knew what grits were in Berkeley we rarely encounter such a southern style cooking she also cooked a great Thanksgiving roasted turkey !

My mother was a slick trickster, she taught me how to cook all of her favorites. Once she was satisfied with the quality of my efforts, it became my job to cook all those dishes. I am now my family's primary cook.

I also like the way you end each stanza with the words, "the way she cooks" for that, after all, is the most important thing for this would-be suiter:-)
I like this - it's easy to read as it rolls off the tongue and much fun too.

Thank you Pam. This poem was inspired by an offhand remark that I read about a female author, whose name I can no longer recall. The phrase stayed with me and spawned this poem that I later wrote.

'To my wife and cook' the marriage did last ten years and we produced four lovely children, (all grown up now.

Well, both of those are attractive women, but I'm like you in that I'll take a woman who can cook every time. LOL. Of course, I grew up where women passed down their culinary skills and kept them going, able to make anything taste good. I can see that roast, fatback and southern mixed greens, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes made with heavy cream. Ayeee! (the way Cajuns say "What's up!) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot. Now you got me hungering for some of the Southern style soul food. I also grew up on such, my mom taught me how to cook it. Sadly only my wife likes that style, but her health limits how much of it we can have.

KDP-Amazon publishing is the way to go. I have published so many books with them I had to just stop. It is just that easy. You will of course have to bear the brunt of promotion, but publishing is so very easy with Amazon.
