I do feel I am still here for a reason. As long as I feel this way, I will fit the good fight. Plus, God doesn't like quitters. :-) Karen

I like this, I am a Terry Pratchett fan and so I a version of Death and his works. Your Death is not that Death I think you might be being stalked by an impostor. Couple of issues that could do with changing I think: Sometimes I wonder if it is worth the fight.
he would wait more patiently.
5 stars good writing.

Mark, my bearded friend, I looked over the story again, and I like it just the way it is. But, keep giving me your viewpoint, I listen and I review.
A lot of time I make changes. Just not today. :-)

Death is a strong, evil spirit, forever looking to see who he can devour. You are an even stronger Heavenly spirit, backed by God, your creator, who determines when and where we will join Him. I pray you continue your good fight.

Oh, to have escaped Death so many times, in so many ways. I like the way you have personified him, revealing his character, exposing his devious ways. And your words invite us to reflect on its inevitable approach.

I cannot really outrun death, but I can distract him. I did die for a few seconds during one of my operations, and I did see a tunnel and a light. I saw relatives that had passed, and they told me to go back. I think we see what our minds can comprehend. I am going to write an alliterative poem contest, I think. Thanks for the read.Karen

Those are grave thoughts. It does seem you have won out because you are a strong woman who doesn't plan to give in easily to your nemesis. He pursues us all, so I try to ignore him. He will likely win out someday, but I hope I don't see him coming.

Interesting post, I'm not sure if it's fiction or nonfiction. I understand the feeling defeated with calamity to calamity and why you are not dead. There must be a reason why.
Well done

I wonder if we all have these thoughts as we age and health and other challenges seem to come fast and furious. I can relate. I'm THRILLED to awaken to a new dawn each day, yet I think of how, even at my age, I've still lived ten years longer than my mother did. Five years longer than my father. There are days I fear the Grim Reaper is gaining ground. I'm not ready yet! (Are we ever?)
This is listed as "General Fiction" but it seems to be a true expose' of emotions to me. It is also, equally capable of being defined as free verse.

You have had quite a health struggle all your life but you have a strong spirit which comes out clearly in this poem-like prose. There's something peaceful about the struggle with Death as we age, especially when we believe that Christ has conquered Death for us.

It is amazing how in one site like this that several people have had that same experience! Alie also technically died on the operating table. There was another. Thanks for sharing!
-
I would imagine quite a few people have had the experience. We just have always been told not to discuss it. Karen

I've kind of been worried about you all week since I hadn't seen you around. But figured you might be busy or just wanted a break, not literally. Now it's sounding like you've not had a great week; so, I'm hoping the weekend gets better. Thanks for sharing.

This was a great and somewhat gloomy story. I rather enjoyed it. You did a great job building the tension in this piece. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
