You did NOT just comment in a public forum that your wife farts!! For one thing, it's a lie, and for another (it's a secret!!). Sorry, still laughing over here. Absolutely lovely essay about your marriage. Happy Golden Anniversary to you! Thanks so much for sharing! :-). Julie

Hmm, congratulations on your fifty years of marriage. That is quite an accomplishment. It shows that you two were right for each other. I will say though, when you mentioned: not always a bed of roses, I knew you list negative things you've done, while doing the opposite for your wife. Your choice and perhaps that's what a good husband does, but I have to say, based on you golf stories, you tend to elevate the women, while leaving any negative and bad things mostly to men, even here with yourself. But that is a common thing on FanStory too.

Yep, a key to lasting for 50 years! You've nailed it, Lance.
That's a very good point, though. Especially today, men are so often depicted in the worst light while women are the superheros now. I can remember years ago pointing out to my wife that in the Berenstain Bears books we used to read to our kids, Papa was always portrayed as kind of a doofus, while Mama was the smart, responsible one. I can remember resenting it a little.

Thanks so much, Lea, and for that 6 too. We do have a lot of laughs together. The whole family will be here together on the 30th to celebrate with us, and we sure are looking forward to that.
I think they've got some sort of roast planned for that. We've given them a lot of material for that over the years!

Lol...I'm you have! Have fun with it!

Bravo! Do you have made it for 50 years is quite an achievement and I say well done. May you continue on with a wonderful marriage and even make the number 75 years. Not many people today can accomplish what you've already done. Congratulations on a job. Well done Patricia.

Thank you very much, Patricia, for your wonderful review and for the 6 stars. I would be delighted to reach 75 years. Now that would be a feat to be really be proud of!

I sure wish I had a 6 left Jim. I laughed my ass off ( well, not entirely true, I have plenty left.) When you wrote about the cream cheese cake in the garage, very clever putting it there, but closing the door was not. I laughed loudly for a good 3 minutes. When I was much younger I might have gone with you on blending the icing. But I am grown up and adult now. Sometimes. Thank you so much for the story, And, happy 50th! Karen

I have told a few people to read your story. Every time I think about the story I start laughing again. I can see it all play out in my head.haha Karen

Well, thanks, Karen. I loved your joke about laughing your ass off!

I thoroughly enjoyed your delightfully honest summary of fifty years with your sweetheart. When I was a senior in college, I had my eye on a handsome freshman who asked me for a date in late January and married me in mid August. After 65 years, still married, we have two children, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, with one more on the way. With God as our partner, we are still glad to be together in our senior years. Our son, who is 64, says his marriage of 34 years has seemed like 5 minutes - under water. (his favorite line, even though they're happy.)

Thanks so much, Verna. 65 years! Wow. That's really impressive. There's a bit of luck in finding the right person initially, but it takes some work too. Seems like we've both found the key.

If these minor arguments are all you two have experienced, then it is no wonder you have been able to stay together for 50 years! Congratulations Jim and I loved your tender, loving story of loyalty and love, love Dolly x x x

AWWW!!! Wonderful essay! And I'm impressed at how you both rubbed off on each other with grace and humor. You both have 8 years ahead of us as we celebrated 42 years in July. It's a marvelous blessing to know some one from our immature college years to grandparenthood. Growing old together is a wonderful thing. CONGRATULATIONS!! I'd add a gif here but the ability to add websites is now forbidden in replies and reviews.
You both look so in love in that picture!!

Thanks so much, Helen. We certainly do complement (and compliment) each other in so many ways, and I think that can be key to a good marriage. It's not the only thing, but it sure helps.
I think it was you who inspired me to write this because a few months back when I told you we would be celebrating our 50th in December, you told me I had to write about it. I'm glad you did!

I can't believe I typed July. It was August! Maybe I'll lose count before our 50th! I owe you a picture. I didn't forget...Found an album.

Great! I'm still waiting for it.

This is a fun story about two people who lived more harmoniously than the two of us. My German husband and Prussian me, after 56 years, are very good at yelling, but also making up. This is a lovely tribute to your wife, although the last sentence of the next to last paragraph may not meet with her approval.

56 years! Wow. You must be doing something right (and that making up must be very fun!) She cracked up at that sentence you refer to. I've got her thoroughly converted now!

I love this, and believe me, you are not alone in those annoying male habits. Most men have them. I can certainly identify with a lot of what you have written!
Cheers, Julie
